Scope base mount on barrel
« on: January 17, 2010, 06:57:06 AM »
Has anyone experimented with a scope base mounted on the barrel directly in front of the receiver ring? This eliminates the need to drill and tap the receiver ring for the front base.

No but I think ATI makes a one piece mount that clamps to the front and rear of the reciever thats no drill.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

I did that a while back to an 8mm barrel I screwed on to a brand new Columbian FN receiver.   Didn't want to drill that receiver so I used a steel base made for one of those TC single shot guns.  Don't remember which one.  It worked well on the straight sided stepped barrel.  My first Scout-like gun.   Fitted an old-style pancake cheek piece type stock with those "flats" by the receiver.

I could take a pic if anyone was interested.  Not much fancy.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

I am thinking B Square may have made one that mounted on the sight base.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

I installed a B Square scope mount "kit", onto the rear iron ladder site.  It works fairly well, with minimal self-installation and fairly low cost.  FAR better than drill & tap ANYWHERE onto my beloved 1898 Swede!

I don't know how good or bad their Mauser products are but I bought one of the Mosin Nagant scope bases off eBay for 30 bucks. The scope base is almost passable, but the handle that was given with it is so cheap I would be embarrassed to be seen with it on my rifle. (I'm not kidding,I'm going to make my own on the lathe because having something that cheesy looking on my rifle would be humiliating)

I would like to see it. Not fancy, but anytime any one figures out something unique and then uploads pictures,it adds to the body of information out here that people can find when searching. Good ideas are always nice to share.
