Help me sight in my .358 win.

 I usually sight in my .250 hornady at 2350 fps 1 inch high at 50 yds, where does it hit in 25 intervals up to 250 yds. Also need the same for 200 grn factory silvertips. Thanks
   I missed a bear last Spring at about 170 yds and I've lost my confidence. Usually I have short shots over bait. Appreciate any help

On the 250 your about 2.5" high at 100 yds, zero at 200 yds. and 5" low at 250

Ballistic calculators are fun to play with but often unrealistic for real field conditions.

In order to find raise your confidence at given distances, you need to shoot at these distance.

I agree, but I wish I had a ballistic calculator to play with anyway. All I have is charts and shooting experience.
The range is indeed the best place to find out for sure, but the charts and experience will get you well within the ball park if you have been paying attention to what your doing.

Why not load the 225 Gr bullets . Think they are better suited in the 358 and would do a lot better on the bears . they are a bit flatter shooting and carry enough engery for the bears . Serria and Accubonds are the hammers . I would use the rounds on deer through and including moose . Then also your going to learn where the "one" round is hitting at what range, with that gun, with some practice .
Nothin' builds more confidence- than working the range with one load, one rifle, and seeing one dead animal after the other, always knowing where that bullet is going to hit.
It stops the brain from working on what range ,with What bullet have I got ? thing- before taking the shot . Instead you will smile since "I got ya!"

On the subject of the 225gr-

Layne Simpson in "The Legacy of Leverguns" prefers the 225 Nosler Partition in front of H4895 in his 358W, a model 88 Winchester.

Just another man's opinion. I wish it were flat-pointed so I could use it in my 356W, but then again, I'm all too happy with my flying wheelweights. Good to be happy.

. I've killed several bear with the .225's they are not nealry as effective as the .250's and they seem too tough for deer. 200 grn hornady spire points really puts the whammy on deer. 49 grains of TAC sends the 200 grn hornady at 275o fps

Point Blank has been around for sometime,and gives good results.Not to mention it is a free program and very easy to use.I've used it against my rifles and as long as you plug in the correct numbers for most G1 bullets forms it will get you extremly close.http://www.huntingnut.com/index.php?name=news&file=article&sid=3

Do as you please, but you will find a lot of reloaders using the 225 as "the" weight Winchester dropped the 250 round too for a reason. Check on Beartooth Shooters form Rifle section and you will see one report with first hand experiance .Then what ranges are you shooting as I refer inside the 100 yards there about .
I have used the 225 Serria on deer and they mow down the beast with a good broadside chest shot .Your not going to get a huge exit hole but it sure makes burger out of the lung and heart .

Then too you could go with a premium 200 Gr. weight if your on Black bears , as many are still shot with the 30/30. That load with tac should get through the fat and into the vitals .

As for Winchester  dropping the 250gr load for 358/356/348, etc - they've been known to drop a lot of stuff that worked. It's a numbers game to the mfgr's - doesn't matter if it's good or not. Where the hype is dictates where the sales are - just the art of advertising and making money.

I shoot more 250's in my 356W than anything else, actually 242gr with gascheck!
Perfect for my purposes. I like 'em. They are MY premium bullet!

For a relative short bullet for weight( leave more space in the case) that holds together and still has a reasonable BC look at the 220 Speer FN If you want heavier, look at Hdy's 250 gr RN

Never said the 225 Serria was compaired to the NP , then you throw in the 242gr lead round of your 356 ?
I will agree your 356 is sure not undergunned for the job. Then it still in our life time when the 300 Savage was thought to be "the cartridge" , before we were all sold it had to be Mag something to harvest anything.
My experiance with the 358 was soon ended whan the BLR would not handle even the factory cartridge, and at the time Ruger was not yet making358W in the bolt .
 So now it is the 338F I carry with the 215 gr.
What I Suggested is maybe you really do not need all that thump for a black bear as many are taken each year with a 30/30.Last one in the freezer was so shot with a hand loaded 170Gr speer cup and cone flat point
 He should get a good pass through with the 225Gr NP as well as the 225 Accrubond for that matter .Much easier to follow with a pass through.
