Guy's, I Messed Up Big Time!!!
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:08:47 PM »
OK, I bought my BC about 5 year's ago. I knew it was the closest I could ever come to owning a buffalo rifle. I've killed a few deer with it using the Remington 300 grain ammo...all bang-flops. My mistake happened a little over a year ago...I opened an account with Midway. Last year with my birthday discount I got a Lee classic loader for the .45/70. This year with the same discount I got some Black Dawg 450 gr. bullets. Saturday I finally managed to find suitable powder and primers locally...
You know, it's easy to put a gun down when you are paying $2 a shot for factory ammo. That all changed this weekend.
Now I need more bullets and the number to some one who does dirt work in my area...my backstop is taking a heck of a beating!!!

for about the same price your paying for bullits you could buy a mould, a small castiron frypan, and a laddle. your cost of shooting goes way down. the only thing I pay for is powder and primers. DR

Now you've done it. Not only have you got the Handi bug, now you got into reloading too. There is no hope for you now, you are just too far down the path to turn around ;)

AMEN!    or an Elk with a "flying wheelweight" as my wife calls them. We'll be walking down the sidewalk and I'll step into the edge of the pavement and pick up a wheelweight and put it in my pocket. She says, hope that doesn't get into my washing machine! LOL She totally supports all my hobbies, but I do have to keep her washer running!  ;D

About 2 years ago, a guy I work with asked about reloading.  I showed him my setup, we loaded a few for his 30-30.  Then his 223.  Then we smelted a ton or so of wheelweight to ingots.  Then we started molding bullets.  He told me on monday that he wished I had introduced him to black tar heroin or some other drug.  It would have saved him a bunch of money.  You are now officially hooked, no hope for you now.

Well Guy's, I appreciate it. I used to reload about 20 years ago, but got out of the habit when I got out of the Army.

I've always wanted to take the plunge into casting...and there is no better reason than a big bore!

My next goal is to learn to paper patch bullets. I REALLY want to shoot a 500 grain PP bullet in the BC. To me it just isn't really a buffalo rifle without paper patched bullets.

Also, FWIW, I highly reccomment Accurate 5744 for the .45/70...you get to max loads well before the hide starts peeling off your shoulder from the combination of recoil and that steel crescent butt plate!!!
