For the 280 handloaders
« on: January 19, 2010, 05:04:50 AM »
For you guys that are reloading for the 280 Remington.  What is the lightest bullet you have gotten to group good at 100yds/ 3 shots? I'm not talking about 1-2" groups.  I would like to hear from the 3/4" or better results. I want one of these barrels bad.  I have experience in reloading with break barrels and know that the deeper throats can cause issues with the lighter bullets.
It's all a hot mess...........

What shoots in mine may not shoot worth a darn in yours.. Gun barrels just done work like that. They have "personalities" much like us and like different things. But that's part of the fun in working or looking for a preferred load!!

I loaded up some 120Hps years ago and IIRC I used IMR 4831. Lite bullets are not really my forte.

140gr is the lightest I've loaded in my 280/280Imp, both of my 280s have near identical freebore, I can load the 120gr TSX and have sufficient shank seating depth, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with the 120gr NBT, the 130gr Speer may work ok too, but as CW said, each barrel is an individual unto itself and what might work in one won't in someone else's.  ;)

140's or 150's do everything I need done with my 280's.  Just change bullets if I need a tougher one.  The Accubond and Interbond bullets have my attention now, they both shoot pretty good out of my bolt guns, need to work up loads for the Handi.  DP
