* Rep. Brown indicated he supports the following principles concerning gun issues:Allow citizens to carry concealed guns.
    * Require manufacturers to provide child-safety locks on guns.
    * Require background checks on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows.
    * Require a license for gun possession.

doesn't sound very good to me. And he's a divorce lawyer, about the lowest form of... I'm not supposed to cuss here, am I?

Think Deadwood... newly minted Sen. Brown isn't a from San Francisco, but he's a divorce lawyer which makes him a... well, I've a prejudice, here.

Yep, Scott Brown is the prototype "lesser of two evils" politician.  Those of you who really do care about your Second Amendment rights will have a conniption when Brown votes with the Democrats to register your guns.  Brown wants to force PRMA gun registration on all of the US.   Watched the perp debate Coakley and Kennedy on TV.  Brown says that he is in favor of concealed carry but he is dead set against  shall issue.

Considering where the guy comes from, what can you expect?  He may not be a true conservative by standards in some other places, but hey....

Sort of the old lesser scumbag politics.
Still a scumbag! I would have been more elated, had they elected a true conservative, but I doubt they could find any in Mass.

i do not think he is a scumbag at all. he is a perfect answer to the question of should you vote for the lesser of two evils. i really have not studied all his positions but from what i have read he was no where near extrem left when it comes to guns. had the little lady been elected she never left any doubt as to her position on guns. she was way out far far left on guns.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT BROWN.

Turns out I had bum info, and ran with it. Seems he's not a divorce lawyer - though he's practiced some 'family law'  - shiver - but turns out he's one of the good ones. On that score... Mr. Brown co-sponsored a Shared Parenting Bill (HB 1400) which established the PRESUMPTION of shared custody/parenting in a divorce. My kind of guy.

I listened to him meet the press; seemed like a sharp guy.

AS FOR HIS OPPONENT, Martha Coakley - as Atty General, she perpetrated and cooperated with the kind of evil that makes me distrust prosecutors and the state. It's a horror story - prosecutors as inquisitors, incredible charges of child abuse, 'interrogators' paid to ask kids the same questions until they got the answers they wanted, prosecutors and state refusing to admit when injustice was perpetrated by the state in the courtroom - Coakley was rear-guard on this, attempting to keep the people the state railroaded in prison, for political reasons:

If this is true, there is evil about in this case:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704281204575003341640657862.html

Is this is true, Coakley is an evil, conniving bitch, for whom political fealty and gain were more important the justice:

http://www.redstate.com/dan_mclaughlin/2010/01/14/martha-coakley-terrible-prosecutor/

and the list goes on.

I am very, very glad Mr. Brown beat her in the senate election. He may not likely be a guy who'll spend a day at the range with me plinking with an AK clone, but he was definitely a better choice than the Democrat.

i admire that yellowtail.   i am not saying brown is the be all-end all, but it is a message to the dems that their days are numbered and several of them are already backing off as they realize that they are committing  career suicide if they keep on the way they have.  i think it is already too late for them as it is.

maybe, maybe not.

I think there is plenty of reform to be done in healthcare. Ours is a very, very expensive 'system' which leaves many uncovered, may not be the best way to go. The prob I have with the process has been... the Dems are completely running the show, with zero input from the other side. That'll have to change, now.

I think the best way to "fix" health care is to take it incrementally which cost nothing.  First, open up insurance across state lines.  With competition, you can get lower prices and packaged deals for your conditions.  Second, tort reform, to limit liability, to say $1,000,000.  My doctor said he paid about $4,000 a month in mal-practice insurance, because there are no limits to the maximum lawsuits.
These changes would cost nothing in taxes.  Most Democrats came from a trial lawyer backgrounds and don't want tort reform.  You could mandate people buy health insurance if it is offered by their employers, but I don't think that is fair.  But a third thing, is to allow a collection of small business owners pool together and buy insurance like the big corporations.  If a small business owner has 4 employees, and one has a pre-existing or bad condition, it brings the group price up.  However if he pools with 20 other employers with 4 people, that dilutes the conditions enough to bring the price down.  These changes could cover 85% of the people, then Medicaid and Medicare could cover the others.

My brother is a doctor and he and other doctors will tell you that the real cost of tort is not the $4k per month for the mal-practice insurance policy. Although this is a cost we all pay, it’s the defensive medicine he/they MUST practice to protect themselves from being sued to begin with. Tests and procedures are performed, strictly to cover his back-side out of fear of being sued. We are all paying for all this both the policy and the defensive medicine costs.

Tort reform would have a huge impact on reducing costs to us and well as the other competitive market changes you mention. California for all its faults did pass tort reform at the state level. Its had a huge impact on lowering costs. Compared to many other states, a health policy here is less.
