Contender 9MM barrel
« on: January 20, 2010, 02:22:12 PM »
I have a contender 10" blue bull barrel in 9 X19 (9mm).  I am wondering what would the value of this barrel be. I do not see many of these offered for sale or trade.

I have never paid more than $150 for a used pistol barrel.  And for me 9 mil is not high on the list for single shot barrels, but it may be fun and will be cheap to shoot.

I have shot it about 100 times with cast bullets.  it is a fun barrel to shoot. I haven't shot it in a few years. and out of a 10" barrel the 9 MM has more power then the short barrel handguns.

The price for used barrels have gone up a $150 barrel is hard to come buy now The cheapest  i have gotten lately was $165 shipped and that was talked down from $200 because the seller was really trying to sell, I see a lot of barrels being listed in the $200 range

I think there is a small amount of collectability to the 9mm barrel.  The were a few that sold on Gunbroker in the last 90 days. A 10" bull brought $195, and a 10" octagon with the box brought $210. Sounds about right to me.....

The 9mm along with the 38Super is one of the harder ones to find.  I've only seen a handful of octagon barrels and don't recall ever seeing a bull barrel.  Like Keith, I don't want to pay over $150 for a used barrel, but that isn't going to get it for a unusual or hard to find caliber.

Guess the "supply and demand "theory really does work here. Supply is low, demand is low.
You just have to market it where a whole lot of people will see it and be willing to wait for the right person that has to have it and is willing to spend the money.
Might take you a while to sell it at the higher price or you might list it lower and entice someone that has a 9mm pistol and a bunch of ammo, some free cash and wondering if the 9mm is actually an accurate round.
Depends on how soon or how bad you want to sell it.

rickyp, I think I'm going to a local gun show tomorrow and should see a couple of my TC dealer buddies.  I try to remember to ask what they think the going rate would be on our side of the Potomac.

Eds T/C's has a 9 mm 10" bull listed now for $220.00.
Send them an e-mail and ask what they would price it at.

rickyp,  Two long time TC dealers both said the going rate for a 9mm octagon in good shape was $250.  Neither thought they had ever see a factory 9mm bull barrel and figured it must be a special run barrel.  Price...???

Yeah, one said more like 300-325, the other maybe 300.  Now keep in mind these guys are dealers and the more they make your barrel worth, the better theirs look.  Those numbers are high retail certainly, but yes, I would think at least 250. ;)
