I'm in zone five, (Michigan). I want to start more of my own seeds this year too. Probably start em early april so they can go in the ground end of may.

I'm in Ohio and was wondering if the plants would be strong enough to put outside if started in early April.
I was thinking of starting them in Feb.
To early?

I'm in VT. Most folks here start their seeds indoor for tomatoes & peppers around St. Patty's Day ( Mid March ).

According to the Ohio extension office, which should pertain to Zone 5, and possibly 4, seeds should be started 4 to 12 weeks.  This would be Mid February to Mid April, depending on the plant type.  You will need to research these a little bit, and do not forget to include a period for hardening them out.
