If you're talking big hogs, then the .30's are fine. But if you're gonna be shooting smaller ones (>100lbs) and want the meat, then look to something smaller. Also, are you going to have the opportunity for multiple hogs where you will need several quick shots? If so, then a semi or a lever would be better. If not, then a bolt is just fine. I saw that Academy here in the Austin area was selling a Stevens 200 in .243 for $179! That'd be a great hog gun if you wanted a bolt. Honestly, it's really about preference. I have personally killed hogs with everything from a .223 up to a 30-06 in semi's, singles, and bolts as well as with shotguns and handguns from .38 to .45. I've been with people who have killed them with everything from .222 to .44mag and most everything in between. But most kills have come with AR's in .223 and AK style rifles.
