Collectors 7.62x39 Ammo?
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:40:27 AM »
I have some older NORINCO 7.62x39 ammunition that I think is classified as AP. How do I figure the value of it? (Ignore the PMC stuff!).

Thx.

I don't believe Chinese ammo is collectable but who knows. I'd say it's worth whatever you can get for it. This don't sell and it's available to millions of buyers.http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=155289476

Norinco AP ammo is a collectors item, not as much as the military stuff though. the ammo that was originally packed with the sks rifles, or ammo in spam cans. To verify that it is armor piercing, use a magnet on the bullet itself, if it sticks it ain't lead ;D double check on the www.ak-47.net files or the SKS forums, it would probably bring the higher price there. or on www.sturmgewehr.com there is a collectors forum on there as well.....

If a magnet sticks tot eh ammo it does NOT MEAN it is AP.....sorry thats just not true.  It does indicate that there is metal used in the ammo.  Armor Piercing and Full Metal Jacket are 2 wholly differnt items.

I would not say your ammo is of an unusual collector value at this time.  To be honest in my opinion the largest increase in value lately has been the ammo shortage of x39 ammo.

I used to buy Wolf at $69 a case...now $260???   The Norinco is good ammo but still only $6.00 a box ammo in MY opinion.  Maybe I am wrong?  I did buy some at a show 2 years ago....$4 a box.

I still shoot the stuff in the yellow box. Literally hundreds of tons of it were imported.

I have some of the Yellow box stuff gave about $5 a box for it it just plain old mild steel core, some Chinese ammo factories made steel core some made lead core, all the bullet jackets on Chinese ammo will be copper coated steel so the magnet test is a moot point it will stick to all of it.

Be careful of you backstop if you shoot the steel core ammo,it tend to separate and ricochet off hard targets pretty bad.
