Any pistoleers out there?

Been reading about this subject for a decade, talking here and other boards. I strolled through the armory (closet) last night and realized something. If I had 30 seconds to leave the house, it would absolutely be with 2 pistols, maybe the shotgun I keep ready for HD but I'd be willing to drop it. I've got a 1911 .45 with another .22 slide, mags and ammo in a bag that packs in a pouch on my BOB. And my trusty S&W 627 PC on my hip. If I had a few more seconds, I might grab a snubbie .357 and a .22 and throw them in pockets. Wife and kids all have their designated hand guns already.

Yeah, I give up range. But I feel like I might gain a few things. What do you think?

Comon now Teamnelson you said only one. 357 blackhawk 6" bbl. Lots of versitility, lots of power of I need it, tough rugged gun, and it shoots straighter for me than any handgun I own.

bilmac, you're right. so only one would be the 627 ... today

the convertible blackhawk .357/9mm is attractive for survival too.

My GP 100 .357 would be the first I grabbed, The 1911 would be second and one of the .22 would be third choice.

Not crazy at all - apart from a battalion or grizzly, I can't imagine a scenario where you couldn't make those work for ya!

definitely one of my 22 pistols if it was a survial situation.prob the buckmark,and bout as many shell s as i cud carry.agin a human opposition it would be my gp100 ruger 357.

my daily carry gun 357 mag 640

i like the 5 inch 44 mag smith the best

but concealment i consider foremost

a gun that might be seen and confiscated is useless

Pistols are nearly useless IMO. I hunted with them for years and did quite well. Most people can't hit anything with one.

Since this would be a shtf scenario, the Dan Wesson 715 8'' first. Second would be the Dan Wesson 744. 3rd would be the 1911. Mainly because either one of the first 2 I'm confident to take deer size game out to 100yds.(Even thou the 1911 can, I never did it with that one.) And, as far as self defense, either one of those 2 can hold their own with a .45. gypsyman

Which ever SIG was closest to hand. I would not feel under gunned with any of them. If I figured lots of fighting I suppose the SP2340 would go as I have the most loaded rounds available for it. The P239 is much more comfortable to pack around though, and really isn't much different than a P225 in that regard.

Best bet is everyone grabs a pistol as they leave the house.

Either my P226, P229, or my P230. All would be something I would grab if I had to bug out due to civil strife or natural disaster. I would look for capacity and compact to either make a bad situation better or lots of projectiles to make a worse situation... All five of my SIGs function every time and I can hit most things I shoot at. I have spare mags and plenty of either 9X19 to fill the mags or 380. As well as good holsters. If it hits the fan CCW laws no longer count.
The P220 Sport is just too big to hide. I had to buy a holster for a desert eagle for it.
And the 2340 is in Texas and I am in CA. So hard to grab.

The revolver with different cylinders is really a good idea 357/9mm or 22mag/22lr. Add that to a 357 lever gun . Someting Ive been thinking about real hard

I'd like to say a 1911 or Glock 19...or maybe an XD-45. It will likely be my be my Browning Micro Buckmark .22 because it's taken more critters than any gun I own exept for my Ruger 10/22. I carry it often and have alot of confidence in my ability with it.

Only one. It would be the Ruger 44 magnum. If I was allowed a second handgun it would be the Browning Buckmark. Where I live would make these choices work for me. I have shot the .44 mag. for many years and feel comfortable with it. I am in an area with plenty of deer, elk, and bear. I also reload and cast my own bullets.

I've read all the thoughts on the one hand gun. I also feel the 357 no matter what make. I bought a S&W 686 4 in. 25 years ago. Still shoots as if new. The ammo is easy to find and reload. Both .38 & 357.

I would also get a good lever gun in the same cal. Here in Indiana we can hunt deer with both rifle & hangun. In a pinch a 357 can bring down a black bear if needed.

One more thought. Most of you say:"If I have time to grab what I need". Now is the time to be ready, fix up a pack of what you may for 72 hours including your guns. Then when needed just grab and go. Do this for the whole family.

I can see the case for either 22 or 357. 22 you can carry lots of bullets. If you are thinking if mostly small game that would probably be the best choice. However if you are thinking about defending yourself from starving two legged predators then I would want the 357. I think that even in comparatively wild Wyo, there will be lots of undesirable social interaction because the cities will empty out fast and now wildlands will suddenly be populated..

I used to be a crack shot with a 1911a1.
Cant hit nothing these days
So I use a Winchester 94 in 30-30 for my close in sidearm.
Weight a tad more than a large frame revolver, holds 6 rounds.
Hits out to 150 yards, open sights.

I can't remember if it were 20 or what but i read an article written by a guy who spent time in South America training troops . He worked out of jungle bases often . He kept 2 4 inch bbl 44 mags on a belt with a knife , canteen and first aid kit. It was part of his escape gear. Some of the reasons made alot of sense . Revolvers don't lose mags. 2 guns incase one dies or you must stash one for later. You can move faster and draw less attintion with hand guns , 4 inch guns are easier to hide . The 44 mag can take care of any close threat. He also had a vest and jacket with survivle gear. He staying out of a fight was the best way to stay alive , evade trouble . And with a 44 he could get a rifle as the need arose . The 357 makes sense also as would a 22LR .
I would also add that when taking Personal protection classes we spent time on what happens after a disaster . We watched film taken in Fl. it seems weapons that were in sight were taken . It was apperant that rights were non existant . It makes little difference if you lose your protection if it was legal or not as you have become un armed . Where i live if the population is over 100000 you can only have a CCW and it can't be seen , so if seen they could take it . Also many places a loaded long gun is a no no . So again they could take it . I don't think a big storm will cause laws to be suspended . The hand gun make quite a bit of sense really.

In my situation it would be my SW model 1917 in 45acp with ten full moon clips. It is superbly accurate even with milspec ball and offers quick reloads with the moon clips.

I was thinking about this just the other day. I'm not a Lever rifle guy but because I own a 357 pistol I was thinking about purchasing a Marlin 1894 in 357 or Winchester 94 in 357 or an old Browning B 92. That way I could grab the Ruger 357 and the lever action, throw in as much 38sp and 357 AMMO I could in a pack and out the door I go.

Has anyone ever handled a Timber Wolf take down slide-action 357. (don't think they are made anymore, but I saw one recently for sale pretty cheap and kept thinking it might be a neat little camp rifle.

I used a timberline very briefly for LE. It is supposed to be just a scaled down 870. It is very difficult to reload, other than that I thought it was a pretty fair shooter. Other than zeroing a scope, I never tested the accuracy.

i don't go ant where with out my 357 640

so is that it or do i get to pick one to add to it

with this i can take any other gun that comes after me any way

it is easily concealed and not likely to be confiscated before it is needed
