1976 39A (pictures added)

I picked one up about a week ago and it was leaving the empty casing in the chamber after firing.  I'd about decided I'd take it to the gunsmith but this afternoon I thought I'd give it one more go.  I took everything apart and cleaned it again with parts cleaner.  I wrapped a .30 brush with 0000 steel wool and mounted it in my drill using one section of rod.  I ran it in and out of the chamber for a few seconds and then cleaned the barrel real good.  I relubed everything with Mil-Tech 1 and put some Gunslick on the sear & firing pin.  I reassembled it and ran a few subsonics thru it and they functioned fine (after I remembered to release the ejector hold down screw )

I will take it to the range on Saturday for further testing.  I mounted a period correct 4-32X Marlin Model 400A Scope on it just to see how it does.  It looks really good on this little rifle.

I doubt there will be any interest in this forum but here it is.

Oh, there's interest, all right! Lots of us love the Marlin levers.

You've got a good looking rig there. I'm glad you got your fail to extract issues sorted out.

I hope it shoots as good as it looks!

It was a little off topic on the Marlin CENERFIRE Rifle forum so I moved it here.  And Uncle Howie is right: lots of love for the Marlin levers here.

7 shots At 25 yards using cheap Remington Golden bulk ammo.  The gun is running perfectly now.

very nice setup you have there ! i bet the previous owner shot a lot of shots without cleaning the chamber . that will crud it up real fast . glad you sorted it out .

i normally think Scopes look out of place on a lever action , but that old marlin 4x32 looks great on there .

I recently purchased a model 84c springfield and had the same problem.A little investigating showed that the gun had been dry-fired and the firing pin created a peen on the edge of the chamber causing the cartridge to stick in the chamber.a little filing with a chainsaw file, and now it works perfectly

The bluing looks good.  I have a Glenfield 4X scope that looks just like your Marlin scope.
The older I get...The better I was.
