Don't have a Necker But I hear they are a good knife. I have never sharpend any of my fleshing knifes still use the orginal dull edge and works fine. Beveled edge toward you. Or in not out.  It's how I was taught and it works for me. I wouldn't put to much of an edge on it you might be asking for trouble.

Good luck on fleshing a beaver--with nothing but a dull knife.
Some sharpen their kneckers by using a sharp skinning knife to run back and forth on the edge--much like you would use a steel to sharpen knives.

Tom
I think you sell a sharpener that works on the neckers? The sharpener with both a straight and sissor carbon tool?  To sharpen the neck use the part of the tool made for doing sissors.
Trick with the necker is to never touch the back edge of the blade and just sharpen from the one side that is up when cutting. If I go on the back of my knife at all it's maybe one past to knock a burr down. Most time I just use a couple swipes with a steel, I don't believe I have use a stone.

Mark,I sell the Sterling sharpeners, they no longer come with the part that sharpens scissors.
