Anyone heard of a Walther LGV air rifle?
« on: January 21, 2010, 02:35:45 PM »
New to the board, great site.

A friend said I should come here to ask a few questions...

I have a few air rifles. A Sheridan .20cal pump, an RWS mod 48 and a Walther LVG...

I believe the Sheridan and RWS rifles are made for hunting, has anyone here heard of this model Walther?

And can anyone tell me what this thing is made for? Its super heavy for a pellet rifle and has a target type bench rest stock and wierd sights...

I tried looking in my buddy's firearm blue book for some info on it but couldn't find anything...

Was this some kind of indoor military training rifle? I've had it for a looooong time and only found it because I went through my safe for my yearly wipe down's and realized it wasen't a .22lr....

Thanks in advance for any info.....I'll put some pics of it up in a few min's......Ben

Walther LGV, made for 10 meter target competition back in the 60s and 70s. One of the best at the time.
This one is an LGV Speziale model.

  Thanks for the reply Dave.

Whoa, the rifle seems to be the same but the stock on yours is a beast...
Are these worth anything? I'm not sure if this thing has ever been fired. I was thinking about taking it in to a gunsmith to have it looked over but if its not worth anything i'll just wipe it down and shove it under the bed, this thing takes up too much room in the safe....

Wow, thats a nice one. Its got whats called the Olympia stock on it, mine is a UIT competiton stock.
Don't take it to a gunsmith, most don't have a clue about air rifles and may do more harm than good. Although it may look like a fire arm it has little in common with one.
As for value, make room in the safe for it. Its a collector piece, probably worth something north of $500, maybe quite more a bit if its near 100% and unfired.

If you want more info, ask the experts on the American Vintage Airgun Forum. They specialize in stuff like this, and there are several Walther collectors there that will fill you in.
