H&R 450 Marlin
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:40:08 PM »
Just wondering if anyone else besides me owns one of these and hear any opinions on them. Mine was shooting well until this year and now i don't know what happened. Shooting all over the place. Might be my scope or a front stock issue. It fits on very tight and seems like it needs some work there but won't know until i get some reloading done and try it without the forstock on it.

If you have been having weather like we have been in Arkansas, the first thing that comes to mind is moisture causing an already tight fore end to swell and change pressure on the barrel. Shoot it without the fore end. Don't worry about where it hits as much as group size. If that doesn't work then I would move to the scope.

I got one but have not worked with it yet.
I just picked up a set of dies and some brass from foxhound and a few weeks ago I was able to get a large quantity of 350gr FP factory ammo from a member here so it won't be long before it starts barking.

Good luck with yours.

I notice at the website that the 450 has been discontinued from
the barrel accessory program.
I guess lack of popularity.

;D I bought one a number of years ago when the Wally World close to me was still selling firearms. It is fun to shoot and can be very accurate at 100 yards. I put an old 3X9 Tasco scope on her.

Make sure your scope is tight, a .450 Marlin will shoot them loose if you don't use Loktite.

The use of thread locker on base screws is important on any rifle, not just the heavy kickers, not using it accounts for a lot of frustration at the range, see bedding the scope rail in the FAQs.  ;)
