mauser's history on the history channel
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:42:42 AM »
the guns of mauser, was on the history channel last nite. it was more of a historical overview of the company then it was about the different model of guns, but interesting none the less. they did mention that the 'new' mauser factory is still producing rifles, mostly sniper style pieces based on thier bolt action design that goes back to the 98's.

Yeah but it ain't mauser any more it's just a name  >:( some holding company brought it and they closed the Obendorf place up and sold it and moved the bit that was left. The 03 was designed a bit like the ill fated M96 Slide Bolt not by Mauser at all in fact the M96 basically lives on with a turn bolt conversion as the Titan line of rifles built in Austrai:-

http://www.jagd-shop.at/english/produkte.html
Notice that the stock design is virtually identical as is the reciever and the clamp come recoil lug that last of the M96's also came with a drop mag but of course the M96 used a double stoner bolt head with 16 lugs to make the straight pull work easily while the Titans come with either 3 or 6 lugs.

The M96 Slide Bolt:-

That was mine in 6.5x55. I say was as I sold it just before Christmas to make room for another Parker-Hale rifle. The 03 Mauser is vastly over priced and quite clunky in feel and although I expressed an interest once now that I know more I lost all interest in them what so ever. It ain't a Mauser it's badge engineering and cashing in on the classic name nothing more same as they did with the M96 Slide Bolt  ::).
