I don't make my own lube so I cant help you there, but if you the cast boolits site (yes spelled that way) and they have all sorts of reciepes posted there. I just buy my lube for 3.50- 4.00$ a tube for SPG it works great for me and it is also fine on smokeless loads. My bullets are casted at 30-1 mix for all my BPRC and SPG lube and load for 38-55/ 40-65/ 45-70/45-90 and never had a problem with leading (unless) there was sizing problem to bore size. The 45-90 is loaded with a duplex load and 535 gr bullet SPG lube and it's fps 1465 and no leading. Have you slug your bore? BP bullets you want on the soft side, hard bullets will cause you nothing but problems in bp. Is you leading at chamber end or more at the muzzle, WERE THE BORE SHOWS THE HEAVIEST LEADING will tell you a lot. give us more info we can help. bore size? bullet dia? lube your using now?alloy ? type of rifle? Ring back!!

Ha Boommer thanks for the imformation I am curious though when you say is it close to the breach or at the end of the barrel could you explane please what each one might mean. I ran a tight patch and cleaning jag  down the barrel breach end and the lead was on the patch when it came out so I don't know at what end the lead was ::). No I have not sluged the barrel, it is a Pedersoli with a 1/18 twist. I shoot a Postell bullet the ones today weighed 522 to 523.5gr, just at .459 dia.  about 6 on the BHN list my lube is home made bees wax, witch hazel, murphy oil soap and neats foot oil.

If one is looking for a lube, might want to read this link.  It's been viewed 12,700+ times  ... http://www.theopenrange.net/forum/index.php?topic=450.0
I've been using Gatofeo's for over a year and it works in all my BPCR calibers, including a 45-90 at 1260 fps with a shallow GG bullet called the Mini Groove

I reload for the 45-70, 50-70 and 405 WCF, among others.  My basic lube recipe is one part beeswax to one part olive oil.  Heat beeswax until it just melts and add the olive oil.  Stir to mix.  Depending on how that works up I may add more wax (to stiffen) or more oil (to thin it).  Not the most complex formula but it works for me.

There are more complicated recipes available but this really is not rocket science.  Of course, you must realize, I do not shoot in competition so I am not interested in squeezing the last bit of accuracy out of my reloads

Nim you need a super brite led flashlight that you can get from wall mart or home depot or such they have a small head (9mm?)on a flex shaft and they use those small flat batteries and there cheap 7-9 bucks.
Then you will lite up that bore and see everything .slip it the muzzle end look through chamber end then put it the chamber and look down from the muzzle. I use that led lite alot.
Leading right after the throat will tell you sizing problem or alloy means bullet is striping on the rifling, to soon for a lube problem if your lube is even close to being right. .459 dia in that Pedersoli should be fine. 9-10 bhn is were you want to be, 6bhn is pure lead to soft and no antimony won't fill out your moulds and wont give nice sharp bullet fill out. w/w is usable but it is really to hard for BP. The leading more muzzle end means lube is giving up and if postell is the Lyman bullet it will carry enough lube for leading with the right lube
Never got into the bullet lube making end of it, just got to many other things to work on.
This will give you a base but not cut in stone   hope it helps If you have any questions just yell,NOT REALLY GREAT AT EXPLAINING THINGS
