First coon with bow

I was out Saturday morning on the stand, saw a bunch of does and a button buck that smelled my trail coming in, but couldn't figure out where I was, even when the button buck got 5 feet from the bottom of my stand!  Anyway, I watched 10 coons walk by before I had to leave, the deer just decided to wander off and here come two more coons, I had about 5 minutes left before I had to head up to the shop for work (my stand is right behind the shop)  and I decided to crack at a coon, they were about 15 yds. away and I nailed the bigger one of the two, I didn't have time to trail him and get pics, but he left one heck of a bleeder trail into the brush, the jakhammer broadhead worked great and shot right where it was supposed too, I should have no problem with them on deer!

So you didn't get the dead animal?  I love hunting and will try just about any hunting.  I have coon hunted in the past but I see no point to shoot one just to shoot it...if you are going to use the pelt/skin then great but just kill to kill?  Maybe I didn't understand what you said...at any rate my $.02

At about $2-$5 a skin there's not much reason to kill a coon other than for population control. And I'm sure with a broadhead sized hole you wouldn't get top money for one. The cost of having one tanned isn't worth it. The labor in doing one yourself is hardly worth it other than for the experience.
The anti-fur movement may have lowered the price of the skins but they didn't remove the need for population control.

I'm amazed the Jak-Hammer didn't cut it in two. You won't have much of a problem with them on deer. The one I got with a Jak-Hammer was a less than perfect shot (but still in the lungs) and not a complete pass through. She dropped running at 50 yards and even without a complete pass through there was a blood trail. The entry hole was about the same as my replaceable blade broadheads.
