Mossberg 195K-A Shotgun
« on: January 23, 2010, 07:38:49 AM »
I have a chance to pick up a mint 195K-A bolt action 12 gauge. Anyone know if it will shoot steel shot? Also will it handle slugs? Many thanks for any info.

Cheers.

I have one in 20 guage it has a screw on type of choke.  I wouldn' recommend steel shot, the barrels of that time we not made for steel.  Slugs I don't know, especially if it has a screw on type of choke.  Buck shot yes, slugs I wouldn't suggest it.  Shooting steel in an older gun will ring the barrel a couple of inches from the muzzle.  I know because I have shot steel thru an older mossberg and it has developed a ring.  While the barrel for my mossberg was cheap it did develop a ring.  Only appears more cosmetic than real harm but its still there.  Another thank is steel is best thru a modified choke.

wouldn't shoot steel in it. open the choke wide open and slugs should work fine. my opinion and you're welcome to it, bubba.

Thanks all. I will try the choke wide open with slugs. I want a 50 yd deer gun so am hoping this does the trick. The Mossy is mint so I want to try it out.
