Gcrank1,
I love the skinner sight. It looks great and the quality seems high.
No offense taken. Maybe I did not do it right, but it did not want to come out. I don't recall having this problem when I took the sight off my 336 W, which has the same dovetail setup.
I hated to ruin the sight, and yes, I agree this is poor gunsmithing, to say the least. I thought about having a gunsmith install it. But that would have added like another $40 to the cost: $250 for the gun, $55 for the sight, $40 gunsmithing fees...I might as well mount a good scope.
I have found that over the years my mechanical skills have eroded. I think you need to stay in practice for this kind of thing. I used to repair my own cars years ago. Never had a problem.
Flash forward to the present: Not long ago I busted a wiper blade trying to replace the old one. I said to my self this never would have happened back in the day. I just had a feel for mechanical things that I lost. Or maybe its just I don't have the patience any more.
P.S. I installed the skinner sight without problems, using a hardwood dowel drive to gently center the sight in the dovetail slot. Now lets see how accurate it is.
