Are you talking about on a private hunting preserve?  I have spent most of my free time i tioga county since I was a kid and never saw either a hog or a fallow deer there.  They do have one of the densest populations of black bear in the state, and the whitetail herd is very strong depending on which part of the county you are in.

I have hunted Tioga four times. The hogs are fun to hunt. I saw one fallow deer while i was there. It was huge. The price was more than i wanted to spend. Would i go again. Yes. Was it worth it. It is if you get the right guide. Which in my opinion is Rodney. I have killed three sheep a goat and a boar. The Rocky Mountain Rams are stupid. Not much fun to hunt.  I haven't been in at least ten years. Last time i checked their prices were double now from what they were then. I say go and have fun. One other thought. Call ahead and request Rodney for your guide.

I have a corsican. I think we followed that darn thing over the whole 1500 acres before i could ever get it in a position that i could shoot it.

i grew up in Mansfield,PA....lived there for 19 years. My family knew everyone in the area so i had unfettered access to private and public land(i'm sure that has changed). Lots of whitetails, turkey, black bears and oodles of small game. You guys are obviously talking about a game farm or preserve that didn't exist back then(60's and 70's). I'd like to hear more about it...

No...and don't believe everything you hear.  Can an animal be in bad condition...sure...happens even in nature...TIOGAs been around awhile and I expect there's a reason for that and it isn't having guys shoot from a barn.

Apex. Wish you would explain came from the barn to us. The barn is a good 3 or 400  yards from the hunting area. You are not even allowed to load your gun till you get in the hunting area. Like i said i have been there four times and never seen anything in bad condition. Sounds like BS to me. I don't know when Tiogas web site was updated but it says they have been in business for 39 years. Must be a reason for that.

Apex, I sure don't believe that at all. As far as being in sight of the lodge all the time that isn't true either. I use to hunt an 8 acre woods i owned behind my house. You could see two roads and five houses from there. We killed alot of deer there so i am not sure what that has to do with anything. I guess if you were on the front side of the hill you could see the lodge. I was on the back side. Couldn't see it from there. Sure wish more people that have been there would get on here and tell us their opinion.

Apex, Let us know what you think of the place. Like i said i haven't been there in 10 years. Hope nothing changed to much. Some day i would like to go again. I checked out another place in that general area. Can't remember the name now. I can see that kind of thing happening there.

.....apples and oranges.  They have a guide service that guides for bear in surrounding the area and not in the preserve.

You said it all Doug. Apples and oranges. If i remember right they either own or have access to a lot of the surrounding property there. There sure as heck aren't any bears in the fenced in area.

I gotta admit Bob that quote makes little sense in relation to my comments. I'm not sure what went wrong. Someone made a post asking if they had bear there. I "thought" I was quoting that. I don't even see it now.

Either my mind is playing tricks on me (entirely possible) or I just messed up big time in grabbing the quote. Bottom line I dunno who the heck's quote I meant to grab but someone asked if they might have bears there.

Guys:

I hunted wild pig (boar) at Tioga in June 2005.  My guide was named Karl.

GOOD

Friendly and helpful staff
Great meals and plenty of food
Shooting range where you can shoot targets with your friends for fun
Abundant hogs - they were trapped wild in florida and trucked to Tioga
These hogs were not tame at all; plan on a running shot

NOT SO GOOD

The lodge is a run down house with peeling paint and amateur wiring
No AC; it's HOT upstairs even at night

Yes, you can have a good time.

I observed about 20 fallow deer.  A few trophy stags were present.
