Scope choice for a .308
« on: January 24, 2010, 08:35:13 AM »
I just purchased a 15 in. .308 barrel for my Encore...I had one a few years back that I parted ways with  :-[...missed my ol deer slayer so I bought another. I have always shot Burris scopes on my revolvers, and my old .308 had a 2-7 TC scope...it held up very well, and was also very clear. My question is would a less expensive scope, say a Simmons Pro-Hunter or a Bushnell Elite hold up to the recoil of the .308 as well as a Burris? Is it worth the extra money to go with the Burris or Leupold?? The paychecks dont seem to go as far as they used to, so looking to save a buck.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I just added a Weaver 2.5x - 8x EER on my .308.  It did the job on a nice doe.  I have a Burris on my .357 Mag, and even after dropping it out of a tree, has never failed me.  The .308 is a little more stout and the dual tube design of the Burris made me a little nervous (after reading some reviews).  I guess I'll have to wait and see!

If money is tight, I would look for a used Burris, Leupold or Bushnell 3200.
