I'm going to Chicken out!
« on: January 24, 2010, 12:42:36 PM »
Just back from Wally World to order a 10 ga. Said I need to come back later, as he could not order for me. I'm thinking do
I really need this?  I,m worried about the recoil. Going to hunt sea ducks and Swans if all goes well this year. I want to throw a big load of steel.  Maybe I'll just order the 12ga 32 inch ???

All though I don't use mine much. I would hate to give it up nothing else swings as smooth and has that much bite on the front end . as far as recoil I would rather shoot it than a 3 1/2in 12ga  it is more of a big shove  Mine is 32" barrel mod choke. It works real well on feral cats

I'm with you Greg!!!

I am debating a 10 ga myself, but am scared to death to shoot the thing! I will be turkey hunting with mine if I get one.

I bought a 10ga turkey last year with the 24" barrel, Its not bad at all.
I would MUCH prefer shooting that than any 3" mag out of my 12ga. Now that stings. id hate to shoot 3 1/2 mag steel out of one.

with the long barrel I think recoil would be pretty tame, my Dad had an old long tom bolt with a barrel too long to measure LOL, its a pussy cat.

Dont be afraid, fear profits a man nothing!  ;D

My mindset has always been, "It's just a shotgun (or rifle, pistol, revolver...whatever)". It's made to shoot, so you know it can't actually hurt you.  ;)

Felt recoil from the 10ga is not anyworse than 12ga 3", 3 1/2" 12ga in my experience is not shootable for the recoil senitive out of the light wieght single shot.

What are the ranges shooting sea duck ? You might be better served with a 12 shooting hevi shot than the 10ga shooting steel  . I have seen some preatty amazing shots with that stuff . I waterfowl hunt about 50 days a year my main gun is a ruger over/under  and my back up is a 12ga nef
I cant tell you how many times we have passed it around to finish a hunt just because nothing else would go bang!

2 3/4" No.4 hevishot. in 12ga will give you plenty of range and lethality on any duck. I use to hunt with a buddy who guided Canada goose hunts and that's all he used.

I have the 10ga waterfowl gun and the recoil is not bad at all. I would rather shoot it than a pardner in 12ga 3 1/2". The 10 ga weighs 9 lbs the 12 ga weighs 6 lbs and change.

Get the 10 ga. I love mine

I would assume shots 40 yds or less. Never had the opportunity to hunt them before. They are open water hunts. The person I am going with shoots a 3 1/2 in 12 #2's. I did have the opportunity to eat one this past week. Taste reminded me of fish. Sorta makes me change my mind about hunting them. I do have a 2 3/4 in 12. It is old and will not handle steel shot. Maybe I will just buy some bismuth?

Yeah...I don't like the taste of waterfowl at all. I enjoyed hunting ducks on the 3-4 occasions I've had the opportunity, but I started giving away birds after trying roasted duck. Too greasy, too fishy. Course, I'm not sure the cook really knew how to prepare it.

Went back this morning to order it. When the manager tried to put in the code he found he was not able to order it. Could not even give me a price. I asked if they were out of stock, he said that was not the problem, they just decided not to offer that particular item anymore. In the book, but can't order???
