Fortunately, I now hunt private land but it wasn't always that way. I have had guns pointed at me by people that didn't see me. I have had bullets whiz over my head from only God knows where. I have seen people illegally shoot deer and others that would shoot anything that moves. I have also seen people cut the horns off deer just to let them lay or just shoot a doe because it was there.
I do not fault the weapon. I fault the people that carry it. I can only assume that most of the people here are avid hunters and sportsman as well as outdoors-man. For us, hunting and the outdoors goes beyond the short season. To many people pick up a rifle only a few short days before deer season to go out into the woods to kill something. If they are lucky enough to get a deer then they make it sound like a big accomplishment when in fact it was all luck. It's a mocho thing!
These are the people that scare me. To often, these are the ones that will carry the semi because they think it is cool and they may get more than one shot. Seeing these people in the woods is bad enough. On a few occasions, while trying to sell a few guns I have refused to sell a gun to a person because they just seemed to be to dangerous. One, for example, wanted to buy a shotgun from me. He first asked if I would bring it to the bar that he was at and then asked if I could give him some bullets for it.
Like I said, I really doubt that any of you are stupid, but they are out there. They are the ones I do not want to see with a weapon in their hands let alone a semi!
Like I said earlier. Rim fire semi's for small game would be fine by me. The city boys don't hunt squirrels. That isn't cool enough for them. I just don't want morons slinging high powered lead all over the woods.
