yes i have hunted and ate some of them. But we had a really cold spell so most in the clearwater/ bay area are dead.
This was in the paper: MIAMI - To some dogs, discovering a dead lizard in the yard is like finding a treat on the kitchen floor.
It also can be deadly.
A month after frigid temperatures killed reptiles all over South Florida, veterinarians are still treating dogs that may have contracted botulism by gnawing iguana carcasses.
The result: paralysis so severe that a few had to be euthanized.
Thousands of iguanas, like other cold-blooded creatures, froze to death during the freeze. Some dogs, mistaking them for chew toys, have shown classic symptoms of a disease so rare that most vets don't see a case for a decade.
"I think it's botulism, although it's nearly impossible to prove definitively," said Dr. James Dugan, a Pinecrest vet.
His clinic has treated several dogs suffering varying degrees of paralysis since the cold snap. All had munched on iguanas.
"Why they want to eat a rotten reptile that smells horrible and could kill you, I don't know," Dugan said.
Paralysis begins in the back end, then progresses to the front legs, and in some cases disables the diaphragm. At that point, dogs must be intubated so they can breathe, an expensive step that many owners can't afford.
In at least two such South Florida cases, dogs that couldn't breathe were euthanized.
Serious problems such as pneumonia also arise when paralysis affects the esophagus.
If you do hunt Iguana's there a spot you have to hit or they will run off. A .22cal airgun is best(i used a crosman 2200mag with 600FPS with a 16gr pellets) i have never had the cops called out when hunting them (i don't were camo in urban hunting) but even if you are somewere were you can shoot people can and do call the cops on you went hunt.
I know someone that was hog hunting and he stop for gas and there was some blood and the pigs head sticking out of the back. Well someone passing by call the cops and they held him for 3 hours asking him all kinds of things(he had some cotoye pelts to and they kept asking " who dog did you kill" )
so use stealth if you hunt non-natives. I have a guitar case, soft pool cue case ,golf bags/cases ,Luggage, and other non gun cases to move my long guns in a urban hunt. I use a Easton Redline Sports Bat Bag in Pink to move to the woods here in tarpon which are 2 miles outside of town with my air rifles and never had any problems. Yes, the wood area you can probby shoot at(there tons of case and shot shell out there and lots of shot up stuff) but i shoot a airgun so i am ok. also the closes place there might be some people is about 1/2 mile from that area.
