Taking bets on the storm actually materializing?

What do you guys think?

Think it'll get nasty or is it just the weathermen trying to get extra face time on the news? ;D

Well here we are almost 12 hours laters and so far SW OK is getting the brunt of the stuff.

If that cold north wind keeps blowing hard you might get some of this down your way Dee.

We're suppose to get a little snow tonight and tomorrow, but they called off the ice. Either way, I got my Jeep if I need to go some where. Have fun up there.

Yep, I'm sitting here looking at the ice covered pine tree in the back yard.  It has lost some limbs already and it looks like we will lose the tree.

Between Lawton and Cache on Hwy 62.  Our trees are really loaded down with ice now and limbs are breaking off most of them.

Know exactly where you are. My son used to be stationed at Ft. Sill.

Yea the okc weather people are saying you guys are getting hammered down there.
Power outages all over SW OK.

My wife just made it home, she works at Norman Regional Hospital.
She drove home from there on hiway 9 and said so far only stuff above the ground is freezing.
We're just getting mostly a lite rain that's freezing on trees and cars and stuff here at home.

Did hear that Will Rogers airport has shut completely down.
No flights until Saturday probably.

That's the general area our trip last spring was expected to wind up taking us too on a long and round about route. Faye's dad was stationed at Ft. Sill back during WWII and he was going to take the family out to see the area on a vacation. That vacation never materialized and she has always wanted to make it to OK and to visit the area her dad was stationed.

Well we got to the panhandle and did the prairie dog shoot but the evening before we were to head out thru KS to CO down into NM and then over into TX and back to the Lawton area we got a call that our youngest son who lives with us was very sick and in need of medical care so we rushed home and didn't get to complete the trip as planned. It was intended that on the return we'd drop by and visit with Ditch Digger and his wife Laverne as well but that too had to be cancelled tho the return trip did take us very close to their home we were in a bit too much of a rush to stop off and visit.

Happily and sadly both when we got home he wasn't nearly as sick as we'd been led to believe and he was kinda unhappy we'd cut the trip short tho he had told his mom he felt he needed to go to the doctor for the cold/flu/whatever it was. He was fine and some OTC meds got him well in no time without a doctor visit but Faye's long awaited visit to the Ft. Sill area was not to be. She did get to see a lot of OK on our trip but not the very place she had hoped to see.

Ft Sll has a few things to see while you're there.
They got a collection big guns and tanks.
Geronimo's prison cell and grave.
And the view from up on top of Mt. Scott is pretty nice.

Just remembered we would take our scout troop down there to do rapelling in the Witchita Mtns.
Some times we would stay on the base. They always took real good care of us down there.

I met Ditch Digger at a Gun Show in Sherman, Tx. last month and we visited awhile. He lives about 30 miles from me.
I have been to Ft Sill several times, and visited where Chief Quanah Parker is buried there. I wasn't aware that Geronimo was there. We went several times as it's just a little over a hundred miles from here.
Old Fart, the wind shifted to the north, and it dropped to 43 degrees several hours ago, and is raining but, that's about it. It's supposed to change to snow some time tonight.

Custer's battle flag is in the Ft. Sill museum.  The Museum of the Great Plains in Lawton is a good one to visit too.  The  Holy City in the wildlife refuge is nice.  It has a beautiful stone chapel.  Quanah Parker's star house is in the old amusement park at Cache along with several other historic houses including one that Frank James lived in while he was in OK.  The old man who owned the place died early last year:  He was a true renaissance type.

I often hunt on Quanah range at Ft. Sill.  Last year I killed over 15 hogs on that place.  Sometimes I'm the only one hunting on that 14,000 acre range.  Ft. Sill hog season is in now.  One has to hunt with a muzzleloader or a shotgun with slugs but most of my hogs have been killed with a front stuffers anyway.  We are starting to get javelinas in this area too.  Several were killed at Hollis in December.  Saw one on Ft. Sill a couple of years ago.

This storm has been an awful bad one here.  Most of our trees are damaged or destroyed.  A nice loblolly  pine tree that was 35 feet tall broke in two from the ice.

Well they're reporting lots of bad stuff out there today.
I hope everyone made it through the night okay.
News report says it's starting to slow down now.
Mostly snow, but some sleet, at least the ice has stopped.

We got a solid 6" of snow on top of 1/4" of ice in Enid last night.

Just snow in Kremlin. (about 10 miles north)

We are getting more snow today. Starting to come down hard now.

We caught it pretty bad yesterday and last night.  Not shown are the three pine trees and a birch were destroyed on the west side of the house.  The first two pictures are of our backyard today.  The third is the same place after a tornado touched down in the back yard on Memorial Day, 1999.  Our hunting property in Garvin county probably took a bad hit.

Oh, well, I'll rent a chipper and make mulch.   ;D

Thank God for the woods and the critters that inhabit them

Rain has changed to snow, temp has dropped to 31, and the snow is stickin on grass and such. Not much else.

Boy you guys just missed it Dee.

It was all fairly okay until this afternoon. It snowed big time here. I'm sure we ended up close to a foot in about 5-6 hours here.
Fortunately we've still got power. That ice storm came close to causing problems. I gassed the generator up, if needed I'll roll it out to the 5th wheel. But as of right now we're good here.

I suspect that storm is dumping snow on everyone east of us now.

Most likely. My brother in law just told me they got a little over a foot, in Dumas.
