Federal flightcontrol wads
« on: January 28, 2010, 01:03:16 AM »
Any one shot the new federal loads with these wads??
How far do they go before falling to the ground?
Could it be possible to just use again for a reload after firing?

Use wads ONCE only. Sure you might get half way decent performance but you also might have all sorts of grit and such on them to scratch your barrel. Don't try to save money that way.

As to how far they go it varies obviously but on a skeet range they are pilled up all over the range so generally speaking 20 yards or less is about average.

Years ago I use to load alot of ammo with used wads. I would take them to a laundramat and wash them first and never had a problem. You will find that alot of them will have to be scrapped because the pellets fall off. That said I am not sure how much extra wear there will be because of dirt that you don`t get off. I don`t do it any more.

One of the questions I have about the flightcontrol wads is the pattern while swinging the gun.  The first use by federal was for a turkey load and  I have concerns about a fast swing of the gun on a bird or clay.
I hope I explained what I mean.  Because the flightcontrol wad stays with the shot longer period ,I was wondering if it would spread more horizontally.
Currently to my knowledge Federal does not offer the flightcontrol wads in a 20 gauge with buck shot and thought about opening the bird shells and reloading, but thought if  I found a few wads after shooting  might be able to use and try reloading.
