...and you know what it is. Somebody who shall remain nameless spoke publicly about the economy last night.

I think many are going to develope ulcers because of him. I have resigned to let him and the others run their course. I will continue to vote for candiates whom fully support the Constitution and Bill of Rights, 100%, and know that I am doing all I can.

What I find particularly comical in a way is that Apple's stock is down 7 points since yesterday's announcement of the iPad.

Usually the public (and the stock market) eats up a new Apple product but there is a lot of mixed reactions on this one (rightfully so IMHO).

For those not aware, Apple's little tablet is furthering Apple's goal of media control.  You can't run arbitrary programs on it - anything you download must be approved, signed, and distributed by Apple.  Which means if Apple doesn't like a particular program?  You don't get to use it.  Even on a device you paid for.

I'm hoping that the public is starting to wake up on this type of thing.  If you own the computer, you should be able to do whatever the heck you want on it.

I think the initial reaction to the tablet was to think of it as if it's just a big iPhone without the phone. This focuses on strengths of another product, not of the new product. I trust that users of these tablets will find good applications for them. I'm particularly excited about that kind of technology for presenting electronic books. Today's Kindle, by Amazon, only does black and white and it's kind of klunky to use.

I remember well how people looked at the internet back in the early '90s and thought it was practically useless. Same with MP3s. This could be the same kind of in-the-box thinking.

Oh I think the device itself is a good idea.  I just don't like the restrictions.

For instance people have written an app for the iPhone that lets you connect a bluetooth keyboard to it.  Great idea . . . and Apple doesn't like it, so they don't let you install that on "your" device if you want it.  People have written email apps that work better than the provided ones  . . . and Apple rejects it for "duplicating functionality".  They've even used that excuse to push competitors (namely Google) applications off of the device.

I would honestly look at buying one of it wasn't for Apple's need to control everything.  I'm sure Google will do the idea better soon enough, and they keep their devices a lot more open.  Google Android phones already whupped up on the iPhone pretty bad last holiday season :).
