Browning 1885 value

Had my first good look at a 1885 at a gun show last weekend. What can I say! What beautiful rifle. Simple but elegant. The finish...imaculate! What's it worth? It was a 45-70. Don't think it's seen Black Powder. Are these rifles a good investment? I see they stop making them.

Hi eroyd, :D

Not sure of the investment quality of the 1885 Browning 45-70, but I bought that same gun in 1985 as a shooter.  It's a great gun, I don't load black power, but shoot only smokeless powders in mine.  Lots of fun.  One of these days I hope to put the funds together to go to South Dakota and arrange a bufflo hunt with it.  I would advise you to check out some of the on-line auctions as to current resale priceing, but if you want a great gun in a great old caliber, two words come to mind, BUY IT!! :-D

Hey eroyd.

I have a Browning 1885 in 45/70 I've been thinking of selling...I got it out of an estate sale a couple of years ago along with some other stuff. I seriously think that it has only had 1 box of rounds through it. Let me know if youre interested. The gun is beautiful like you said, but I have too many other irons in the fire...

Thanks for the consideration Evil Roy. Unfortunately my living in Canada makes gun dealings with American's overly complex. The one 1885 I'm looking at is in excellent condition and has a nice scope mounted on it. After checking around I find it is a good deal. Now I've have to decide what I am going to sell to pay for it.
