What States are Class III Friendly?
« on: January 28, 2010, 08:00:47 AM »
Title says it all, i'm looking for states in the lower 48 that are the easiest to obtain a class III. I know of Colorado being one of them. Anyone know of the others? And if so, what kind of hoops do you have to jump through to get one.

Thanks!

P.S. -  Just for info, i'm not a homicidle maniac that plans on anything stupid.....just always wanted to use a silencer while at the range or while i'm out hunting. To many people think i want to do harm to others when i talk about stuff like this....i blame Hollywood for this  >:(

I can tell you that in Oklahoma, you are not allowed to hunt with a suppressed weapon.

Same goes here for florida. But the chance of actually geting the class III is imposible.

Even for pest control would be a nice use of a silencer. I wouldn't really try to hunt big game with a subsonic round.  To me a silenced weapon would be best used on coyote size & down.

Is a slincer class 2 or class  3 ? In Va. you can own both . BUT each county or city can block it . Here the head law enforcement officer has to approve the transfer . I know of one police officer who lives in a county that allows him to have a full auto but works i another that will not allow him to. Now its funny because he is SWAT and uses one at work.  ???  >:( :-X

Thanks Tim,

I knew most states allow the ability to obtain a class III, but the likely hood of actually able to get one is a whole different story. Like ShootAll had mentioned about the SWAT guy that was denied in one county but offered it in another is a good example. Even for a guy that works for such a high position in the local law enforcement to be denied a license shows how much harder it is for just the normal Joe to obtain one.

in washington state you can own a silencer and even attach it to your gun but you can't fire it with the silencer attached

I suspect a lot of the inconsistency in permit issuance is due to ignorance on the part of the individual agency staff just as some post office    acceptance clerks refuse to accept long guns for shipment, their own regs state they're acceptable, they just need to be educated.  ::)

heres some interesting questions that I have never found
an adequate answer to..
What Decible level constitutes "silenced".
What is the difference (if any) between silenced and suppressed.
Can you suppress to a cartain decible level and still be legal.

What area do you live in?  I'm in Lee county area of Fort Myers. Gun dealer i speak with often said this area would never allow it with the sheriff, as he won't sign for it.

I believe the law uses suppressed and what I have read its illegal to lower the report of the weapon as the sole reason for the device . The metro gun attachment quiets the shotgun but also reduces recoil and affects the pattern from what the article says about it and its legal.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Kentucky is pretty friendly to class III, Ever seen a video of Knob creek shoots? Cans are easier to get than full auto Class III.

even  if we  don't get  to shoot  just to  meet and  watch

i  understand  there  is about a 10 year  wait to get a slot/lane
must  wait  for  some one  to  die  for  a vacancy   LOL

any  idea  of the cost.....
