Question on Laminated Stocks
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:09:40 PM »
I am thinking about dressing my 7mm-08 up in T-hole cinnamon lams. It is the standard contour barrel. Can I use the cin. lams H&R sells or am out of luck without a bull barrel?

I've stated this many times before and I think it's in the FAQs at least once, but ALL H&R single shot stocks will work with ALL of their barrels except some shotgun barrels, rifle forends all have the same barrel channel, they don't offer different barrel channels based on the contour of the barrel, doesn't matter if it's a Superlight or a bull barrel.  ;)

Ive moved a few pieces of wood around on my H&Rs and not had barrel channel problems. It seems they are cut generous, so you end up with more of a free floated effect without having to work at it. If the spacer is 'off' at the frame you can fill the existing screw holes and redrill/fit to center it up (if it bothers you, but shoot as is first). If the wood channel is sloppy side to side of the barrel back where it joins the spacer you can do an easy RTV bedding right there to keep it from moving about. (good idea to do this if it needs it this before re-fitting the spacer).

I'd be interested to know what H&R gets for a laminated thumbhole stock & forend? Would that include butt pad & spacer for forend?     Bill

Price for the stock is on the accessory barrel page, $90 IIRC, forend isn't listed there, but it is in the FAQs, about $40, they come with pad and spacer.

I always thought I'd like to have a T-hole stock until someone pointed out the difficulty of shooting one left handed should the need arise. I'd never thought about it before, but after that I gave up on the idea. I have one from Boyds that I've never installed on a gun for that reason. Maybe I'll put together a bench rifle some day.

Thanks Tim.

Question arose from CS @ H&R. The lady told me if I didn't have a bull barrel the foreend would not fit. I knew y'all would come to the rescue!

FWIW: We checked the barrel dia. at several points along the length of the 45-70 BC and the 38-55 TM. The BC is a longer tube, but the taper breech to muzzle is the same. That is to say, the shorter TM at muzzle is the same dia. as the BC at that length.
I dont know if the shorter 'Handi' barrels are similar within their class (bull, sporter, etc).
