rolling block action
« on: December 22, 2002, 10:32:13 AM »
Keep your eyes open at the on line auction sites. I see the smokeless powder Rolling Blocks, or actions on Auction Arms, Gun Broker, or Antiqueguns.com quite often.
The smokeless powder actions are the best basis for a buildup, as they are some of the strongest Rolling Blocks made, and are the most plentiful.
A complete gun in rough, shootable condition goes about $250-$300, and an action is not much less.

I'd stay away from the Navy Arms actions, the word out is that the heat treatment is not right. They're too soft and peen themselves until the headspacing becomes a problem!
