barrel to tight ?
« on: January 29, 2010, 09:21:45 AM »
Is it posable for a barrel to fit to tight ? Just got a 280 barrel fits frame and closes up with no problem but is so close that a fieler ga. wont slip in, have not tried with a round yet.

As long as it latches up well you are GTG. Shoot it and report back and best of luck. Both of my .280's are tack drivers...<><....:)

When I first read the FAQs on bbl fitting I thought it should have a gap, But was informed by quick on another thread that it doesn't it is better if it doesn't. My first bbl fit was a 22" 20ga after about 15 minutes work on the underlug it locked up tight with no gap. As long as the latches correctly it should be good. I also bought a Tracker II 12ga bbl off MSP RET and it locked right up on an SBI frame I got from bobg no gap on that one either.

I did a little editing in the barrel fitting info to clarifiy that point, no measurable gap is great, if the barrel will lock up on aluminum foil which is about .0005" thick, it doesn't get much better than that.  :)  Ideally it will have just enough clearance to be able to close with the barrel face ending up perfectly flat against the standing breech.  ;)

Thanks that is what I was hoping for, it will lock up on foil but it will not slip out its so tight that it tears but barrel will lock up easy.
