which choke works best for buck shot?
« on: January 29, 2010, 11:39:13 AM »
I would really like to try shooting some buckshot rounds out of my old H&R 349 but I would like to have that choke set at the right spot for such loads. Any of you Guys can give some info on what choke to use? No heavy duty rounds goin through this old baby! Just low recoil 2-3/4" stuff. I have already shot both standard 2-3/4" rifled slugs and Remington managed recoil sluggers with the choke adjusted to cyl. bore. The managed recoil shoot great!...I treat her well...she gets petted often. ;D Thanks! scout4<><

i've shot buckshot throught just about every choke from improved cycl all the way down to extra full turkey (.665) with success, it all just depends on how far your trying to shoot and what size shot your using. buy if i had to choose only one size choke to use then it would probably be modified. i've been able to produce some serious deer killing patterns with a .670 turkey choke and 3 1/2 inch #4 buckshot out to around 60 yards.

best advise just experiment and have some fun  ;)

Personally I wouldn't go tighter then modified. But try them and see what you get for patterns.

In my experience modified or improved cylinder works best. Full has always opened up the pattern
