sako 222
« on: January 29, 2010, 11:39:35 AM »
Hi all, just wondering anybody have experience with a riimaki in 222. I keep seeing one at my local shop and it keeps calling my name, just I have little experience with sako rifles, given good condition of bore and action and the jerk behind the trigger is doing the right thing are they good shooters? I mean the price seems ok it's in the low 6's has leupy rings and mounts. Is it worth the asking price? or should I give her a pass? Thanx for any imput

:D 66, I am not a Sako fan....had trouble with a 243 years ago, but that said, I have one same as yours, but it has been custom stocked by two very good friends, and owned by one of my old hunting pals from years ago...It is mint, my pal sold it to me 5 years ago...It is accurate, and all the Sako's in .222 from that time period were noted as super accurate rifles...when I was very young it was "the gun and caliber" to have if you were a decitated woodchuck shooter....Lots of old pals in Pa. have them and they bring a premium price there..Now they are used mostly by deciated fall turkey hunters who use rifles...that is what I wanted mine for in addition to the fact that it was made and owned by old friends....I have only shot turkey with mine...loaded 100 rounds over 50 serria spitzer and imr 4198...maybe got 4 or 5 birds with it, and went back to the heavier Remingtons...It is a fine shooter...I think you would like it for ranges up to 225 yards, maybe 250...in most areas that is enough....they are hard to locate in Pa.. in the area I am familiar with, and never seen in Wy...of course, the .222 did not achieve the popularity in Wy. that it did in Pa.... my advice is buy it....but it 's not my $$$$$$ so it is easy to spend it.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

I find it strange a rifle like that has been marketed for sako buyer (collectors).

I have one in full wood and it is a superb rifle to shoot in 222.  In many thousands of rounds it has only ever miss fed once and that was a very rushed shot.  It is very accurate and comfortable to shoot as well as being nicely balanced.  If the rifle is in good shape and the barrel is good, then you will be saving a lot of money over buying a brand new rifle.  But it is up to you to decide if the price is right.

Well from what I read and what I looked up it should be shooter. I guess I'll have to give it a good home. Thanx for the imput.
Roper the rifle is marketed as a shooter not a collector, I'm far from a collector I just like to make noise every now and again :)

Well I picked the gun up and after loading 3 or 4 different bullet weights found out the bore was buggered. Explain  like this at 50yds I could see slight elongation of bullet holes, at 100yds those bullets that could find there way to the target perfect outlines of said bullet. Broke my heart that was a sweet looking little rifle, gave her back to shop I bought it in with some targets that I shot. The hunt is on again for another. Incase your wondering I tried 45,50,52, and 55 grain bullets all tumbled.
Thanx for the imput
