ML Breech plug threads?

When you order a brecchplug for a Muzzleloader and it has 3/4 16 Threads, Is this a standard Tap or is it a special Pitch????? I have a shutgun Barrel that i want to thread and install a breech plug in.. Thanks to any and all answers,,Steve

The threads are what they say and are not something special to the gunsmith. Breech plugs are usually threaded based on the bore size and the barrels diameter. Shotguns pose special thrills with the sometimes thins walls left after the sizing and tapping for the plug.. Good luck and keep us informed..

Thanks Gunnut,,This barrel was intended for a ML,I Think, it  Measures 1.25 at the breech and the bore is .640 I think it has enough beef. But i will check it real good after threading Thanks steve

When I made the 12 ga. barrel for my H&A Underhammer I had to go to 7/8 x 14 thread.   being your bore is .640 you may be able to use a 3/4 x 16 thread Ok.  I like to have a shoulder in the bore for the BP to seat against.   I Haven't taken the time to look up the minor dia. of your desired thread. 1/2 the difference of your bore and the Minor dia. of the thread will be the max surface of this shoulder.

I have re-thought the process and decided to have a Professional do it ,, But will have to find one. Know of someone??? May be cheaper to buy a Barrel with breechplug installed already?? Thanks Steve

a 3/4 -16 is a standard fine thread tap. Use an 11/16" drill bit.
