Well, my son and I are sitting in our motel room here in the north central valley of Kalifornia. Just got back from having some chow. Tommorow morning we hit the fields with the dog for some pheasant hunting. I'm hoping it does not rain on us! Its drizzeling out now darn it. Need some birds for the freezer.

Might not hit to many but I darn sure would throw the lead at them!
Nothing like the smell of gunpowder in the morning!

Seems like I have heard that line before, or something like that.

Some of both. We will augment with some Chukar to work the dogs and make sure the kid has a good chance to pop a few. Pheasants are both wild and stocked birds that have been reproducing.

Actually it's another illegal alien brought in from Asia. As a rule tho they do fill a niche not filled by native birds so I'm not aware of anything they have bumped out via competition for food source or habitat.

When I was a young fellow, I loved quail! I liked to hunt them also, but in this neck of the woods they are no more! I used to could get up seven coveys with out ever getting in the truck. Now there are none.
I have heard that the over population of deer had starved them out. But the thing I do know is that when we had a lot of quail we had no coyote's, now we are covered up with the dogs and no quail.

I have not seen a Bob White in six or seven years. Used to be lots of them around here.

well I'm in a different time zone but it's morning... assuming you get up at five where you are then it's about bird time. A1 or Heinz 57 with cardamon and season salt?

Used to be a lot of quail here, then came more coyotes, rabbits few and far between too. The coyotes have either killed or run off most of the foxes. POWDERMAN.

Taste close to chicken to me. But like any wild game, what it eats has alot to do with what it taste like. Its been a while since I cooked any and I'm looking forward to cooking some of these.

I use pheasants interchangably with chicken... Pheasant ceasar salad last weekend, pheasant alfredo is a favorite, pheasant broccoli chedar soup... the breast meat is light and tender and works for anything... The legs are tough with tendons you can hardly get out...

The tame birds are better tasting and a bit more tender...

maybe when that kid he took out hits puberty they'll go kill a lion in africa? don't knock the kids outing, it'll be a big deal later in life. like going to the gym, no one is a haus the first time.

can't you go somewhere else to bag on c4? why don't you just get his email address and look him up for valentine's day, shop for some jewelry now and you might get a good deal before it's all picked over. why don't YOU take his kid hunting, to butter up dad. I bet you already thought of that though.

don't bash him till feb 15th, you might get yourself cheated out of a good watch or golden heart necklace. while I doubt you will wear it, it'll pawn for some shotgun shells for your next expedition (tame birds or not!)

He was one of those kids you saw licking the windows in the short school buses and he went to "special" classes. His parents made him were a football helmet when he went outside to play.They were afraid he might bang that soft spot in his undeveloped skull.

It's understandable.

Sorry Mirage, Play Station video games don't qualify as real hunting. If your a good little boy, maybe some day Santa will bring you that Red Ryder you've always wanted.
