Favorite caliber is 30-06 Springfield.  Favorite bullet depends on what the game is I'm going after.  Coyotes, Wolves, Wolverine, and Lynx, Speer 125gr TNT.  Wolves and Caribou, Sierria 165gr HPBT.  Moose, Black Bears, and Grizzlies, Nosler 180gr Partition.  Shooting from a stand over bait for Black Bear, or floating a river where Grizzlies can be up close and personal, 220gr Nosler Partition.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

This is after all the Bear Hunting Forum. I would assume he is asking about your favorite for Bear Hunting.

I like to be prepared.A 125# blackie may show up or it may be a 1,000# brownie. Then again it could be a 400# blackie or the same size grizz. Glad the whole spectrum are praised as a great game animal

Haven't seen much of a difference between my 270 w 160gr partitions (1st bear), 30/06 w 180gr partitions (2nd bear), 300win w 200gr accubonds (3rd bear)....and this year....I'll be using a 35whalen with 225gr accubonds.

To me bears are like hogs....fodder for trying out different guns and calibers!!!  Ain't it fun!!!! ;D

Only killed one bear in my life and a .30-06 with a 200 grain Nosler Partition did the job just fine for me.  I had a 200 yard shot full broadside on around 250-300 lb spring black bear.  Took him high in the shoulders and one bullet was all it took.  My buddy used a .358 JDJ 225 gr Accubond out of a 14" Contender at roughly the same distance to take one nearly the same size around Petersburg AK.

The only one I've ever had a good chance to look at was shot by a 30-06 using 220gr factory remington corelokt and what that round did was just nasty.  That's what I hunt them with.

:) Of the 4 bear taken...#1  was with a 165 grain Serria HPBT from an 06....he ran about 150 yards before dropping...
#2 was with a .300 win. and 150 grain Serria Spt. FB, it dropped in its tracks about 125 yards away...
#3 was a 7 ' 3"  bear again with the .300 win. and a 150 grain Nosler BTBT, he also dropped in his tracks...
#4 was a 7mm Rem. Mag. with 175 grain Nitrex Grand Slam..it took two jumps before falling in a heap...

When I go this spring I plan to carry my .25-06 with 115 grain Nosler Part., my .340 with .225 Nosler Part. my .45-70 with 350 grain Horn. FP & my .old .300 will go along as a backup, with 200 grain Nosler Part...
