Now that was fun!
« on: January 31, 2010, 01:20:37 PM »
Finally had a decent day of weather, sunny and 52, so I gathered up some irons and went to the range. I shot an Astra Constable in .32 ACP, a Remington 870 HD with military buckshot, a Model 1895 Ludwig/Loewe Mauser (made in 1895) in 7X57, a Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington, a Ruger No. 1 in .450-400 3-inch, and last but by no means least, the Buffalo Classic Carbine in .45 LC. The little Handi is a dang hoot! I was just shooting up some odds and ends of .45 Colt loads I had in the loading room -- 9.5 of Unique under a 200-grain lead SWC, 296 under a .340-grain gas check, 30 grains drop-tubed Goex FFg under a Lee 255-grain flat nose -- but the carbine handled like a dream and recoil was nil. And by the way, that BP load wanted to group. Wish I had had more of them. I'll load some jacketed stuff here soon, but first I plan to mount a nice old all-steel Weaver K2.5 on this little fella to see just what it can do. I don't recall ever having such fun with a single shot.
Great gun for $220!

Sounds great! I'm looking forward to getting mine this week. I have a lot of ammo laying around from a Ruger Blackhawk and figure it should be a good start. Any idea on what bullet your planning on using? I have quite a few Horn. jacketed 250gr. and 300gr. XTPs, but I'd like to give the Cast Performance 335gr. WLNGC bullets a try. Should be good for both deer and hog.

The 250 grain Hornady XTP's shoot very well out of my 45 Colt Carbine over some Unique powder. 1" - 1.5" groups at 50 yards with the factory buckhorn sights are the norm. I plan on trying some 300 grain bullets with magnum powders when the weather gets nicer.
