Pro Ears Ultra 33: Do not buy!
« on: February 01, 2010, 11:35:04 AM »
I bought a set of Pro Ears Ultra 33 ear muffs. They are garbage. Do not buy them. At best, the 33 NRR rating is a lavish exaggeration. Construction is poor also.

I bought them because I shoot a lot at indoor ranges and want maximum hearing protection. I immediately went back to using my Peltor 29 NRR muffs. These are vastly better in function and construction.

If you know of a good set that's better than the Peltors, please let me know.

I've been happy with my Pro Ears Dimensions. I am loosing ground on my hearing so a lot of the times I wear the foam plugs as well but I've used these Pro Ears for a couple of years now and they are holding up fine.

I've been looking at replacing my existing with Pro-Ear dimension gold series "Stalker".  I would thing shooting at indoor range a set of  electronic would be better but your looking at good pair starting alot higher than what your paying now.  My Dillion electronics are about 10yrs old  and if I spread the cost over those 10yr of use cost about $9 per year.

The electronic muffs don't have the noise reduction of muffs like the Peltor 29s.

I have a pair of Pro Ears ultra 33's.  They've held up well for about a year now, except for once when they fell off my head and came apart.  Just snapped it back together and haven't had a problem since.  They seem to be up to the 33 db rating.  Kind of large though, but I guess that's what is needed for such a high db rating.  I also use earplugs in addition to the ear muffs.  Too many years around construction noise and jet engines.  Don't want to take any more chances, especially for sport.

Just curious Questor but what kind of DB testing equiptment did you use to state their DB rating was not accurate?

Your 100% correct but they have other features so NRR isn't all that important.
