I'm going to have to go back again and look closer at it.  All i seen on the side of the slide was "International"  not international harvester like on my 15 tractors.

I know...I was just makin' a bad joke. The only company that makes 1911s and uses the word  "international" in their name and advertising, that I know of, is STI.

Are they any good?  I been looking for a cheap 1911 CCW pistol.  I never see the S.A.M.'s, the Charles Daly's and the RIA's.  I just want an affordable shooter / beater to play with. So that who cares if it has wear marks.  I looked at the sti and i think the price was very low on this 1911 over the sti prices.

I bought an American Classic II a few months ago for the same reasons; an affordable plinker/beater.  Got it for $380, has a lot of nice options on it but it went to the shop twice and now I'm awaiting a new replacement.  I'd spare you of the issues I've dealt with so until I get my new one back and see how it works, I'd stay away from the American Classic II.

Thanks for the heads up.  I been there already with two new colts back in the 70's and 80's and if i had the net back then i would still have them.  I even have a springer from the 90's that i'm working on to get it right now.  I had a new colt python with the cylinder timing off too. If i say a gun is good you can bet your/ my life on it that its a good one.  Trust me i feel your pain and know what your talking about.  Back then money was tight and i just dumped them not knowing i could fix them mainly because i was P!ssed.  Now i'm older and a little wiser so i would fix them now mainly because i would know what i have when i'm done and there working ok.

I now accept that every new 1911 won't function properly right out of the box. This means were all going to be 1911 pistol smiths sooner or later if were going to own and shoot the awesome 1911's.

Thanks to Mikey here he has taught me to hang in there and fix it.  But these dam pieces of metal surely can test us even though i like the challange now too.

Right now I will clean the new 1911, polish the feed ramp and tune the extractor before i try to shoot it.  These are awesome, reliable / dependable shooters once we get then right.

Btw;  I would work on my own gun first before trusting a gun smith mainly because i want to learn how to correct it too. Not all gunsmiths are butchers but the bad ones really scare me.

With the exception of the Series 80 I had in the late 80's and early 90's (which I NEVER should have sold) I'm a little "new" to the 1911's.  The recent purchased 1911 I bought was WAY more than a home fix.  Even if if needed a new barrel (and not the original reamed, which should have NEVER happened), I would have wanted it replaced by the factory rather than spending the extra $$$ on a gun that I was trying to get a discount on.  If I wanted to spend the extra $50.00 or so, I would have bought a better model.  Ahh, we live and learn.....and I also agree, we all need to know a little about "do it yourself" when it comes to guns, cars, home appliances and more.  There are a lot of real HACKS out there and it's hard to believe that they actually get paid to do the crap they do to our property.  I rarely trust anyone with my cars etc.  In this case, being new to the 1911 and it was BRAND NEW, I figured I'd leave it to the manufacturer or distributor.  While I agree that none of the out of the box 1911's will work perfectly prior to a good break-in, the thing I bought wouldn't even chamber.  It was terrible.

Thanks to this site, if I come across any other problems in the future, I know where to look first. 
I'll let you know how the new pistol works whenever I get it.  Heck, maybe it'll work great and I'll have some good info for you on a new one.  (hopefully)
