Bandolier Holster?
« on: November 04, 2003, 05:10:49 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with the Mil-Tec Bandolier style holster as carried by Cabelas? I just got a .41 mag Redhawk with 7.5 barrel and scoped with a 2x Pentax. I am trying to figure how to carry this beast in the woods.

Any other recommendations? Thanks!

FTW, I don't have any experience with the holster you named but this might be another option for you.  http://www.pistolpackaging.com/

i think mines a uncle mike's brand bandolier holster. thats what i like for packing my 7 1/2" 44mag redhawk/2xburris. i like a sling on the tc's, but the bandolier is my pick for a revolver.

I second the Bandito from Pistol Packaging. That's what I use.

If it's the one I checked out a couple of years ago, it seemed cumbersome to get in and out of. I got an Uncle Mikes instead and couldn't be happier with it.

I had one of the mil-tech holsters crom cabela's for my scoped ruger old army. i also bought the extra flap. For the money it is a great holster.  the flap is worthless and I never used it. I was thinking about getting another one for my 10 inch "Small game "contenders.

Here's the scoop.

I have a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum, 7 ½ inch barrel, Leupold 2X EER scope capped with a couple of Butler Creek flip-up/see thru scope covers.

I was looking at the Pistol Packing holster (on Graybeard’s recommendation) and would have gone that route (and probably still will) if I hadn't procrastinated; deer season is less than 2 weeks away here in Illinois.

I ended up going with the Mil-Tech holster from Caleba’s.  The packaging states “Licensed by Michael’s of Oregon Co.” and is guaranteed for life.

Likes:
- Inexpensive
- Ambidextrous
- The ability to wear it as a bandoleer or waist holster.
- Here in Illinois, you MUST carry your gun in plan sight.  Read…on the outside of your clothing.  I like the fact it rides on my chest especially while carrying a backpack, though Graybeard said that wasn’t an issue with the Pistol Packaging model.

Dislikes:
- Velcro closure……it’s rather loud and will be replaced with a snap.
- Like rickyp, I ordered the flap and it appears to the way too big for the holster, hence I will not use it
- The shells loops, which run down the spine of the holster, are too small for .44 magnum rounds.
- The end of the holster is open.  While some guys might like that, I didn’t like the muzzle sticking out the end of my holster.  I thought that might be bad for the crown.  However, after taking it to the local shoe repair shop and spending 5 dollars, the end is now closed.

It seems to be well built and for $30.00, I wouldn’t get the flap again, it's pretty hard to beat.

I hope that helps.

Steve

I have been using the Mil-tech with my 14" Contender and love it.  My end on the holster came already enclosed.  I also use it with my .410 barrel  and can get those shells in the elastic holders.  The thing that I did was to take a sheepskin shoulderbelt pad and put on strap where it goes around the neck. Sure helps on those long days carrying it.
