HEH. Several years ago a guy was speaking from the pulpit at church. He said that if he or brother Charlie ever got a couple million bucks that we'd be broke within a  month cause we'd always see somebody in need and we'd give it all away. I'm not that bad, but I'd imagine a large portion would be used doing the Lords work. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D
Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

I forget to buy a ticket most times. My theory is you may not have much of a chance to win but with no ticket you have no chance. Just one ticket.

Tithe, man just think what could be done with a pile of money in Gods Name!

Set up trusts for my family! They get the bucks and they pay the bills or not!

I like the idea of calling folks for help and seeing who and how they would respond.

Take my friends and even some I dont know well huntin. Alaska would be a trip. Buy a Ranch here in Gods country, and one in Montana too!  ;)

Support Children of Fallen and wounded Soldiers.

I've done the retirement thing, and it aint everything its cracked up to be! Lots of money may have an impact on that!

Hunt Ducks in Arkansas, and  South America, regularly

OH I almost forgot, A 100 ft  Diesel powered Aluminum catamaran.  An extended stay in the south Pacific and some diving in Truk Lagoon!

First I would set up a trust.

Second, I would donate to our church.  Our parish just built a new church a few years ago.  Pay that thing off and then give some more in God's name.

Third pay off our debt.

Fourth help out my Mom and my brothers as well as my wife's family.  Both my in-laws have some health challenges, and I would want them to be taken care of.

Lastly I would continue to operate my business, and hunt a bit more often.

Last Friday someone in Katy (west of Houston) hit the Mega Millions.  They went from zero to $144 million over night.  I play when I remember.  As the saying goes, "You can't get any birds unless you put some lead in the air."

1.  Tithes

2.  Donation to missionary fund

3.  Debt Free

4.  College fund for kids, nieces, nephews

5.  In-laws, parents, sister debt free

6.  Grandparent get a live in nurse and a handicap accessible house and van

7.  Nice ranch in Montana

8.  House in the middle, one road in and out, solar and wind power, wells, completely off the grid, 30 years tax money put in the bank

9.  Let my wife pick out whatever horse she wanted

10. Nice long range, maybe out to 1000 yards, trap, clays, moving targets, spinners, plates, etc

11.  Custom gun room, significantly enhance the collection, reloading room etc.

12 Trust fund for kids, nieces and nephews.  They wouldn't get any money until they had at least a bachelors degree and had held a job in their chosen career field for at least 5 years.

After that, I'd hire a hand or two to help me on the ranch and that would probably take up most of my free time.  Of course my free time would be any that wasn't spent doing something productive like hunting, fishing, shooting, sitting in my jacuzzi, hiking, four-wheelin', etc.

Since I don't work, I can't quit my job.  I already do exactly what I want to do, so I'd just keep on doing what I'm doing.  I would have to look for some more tax avoidance investments.

you guys ever think about the fact,i believe , that every child an grandchild you have would be in danger of kidnapping..i need money more than most here ,i would think.. but not enough to risk the danger to my soul ,,it might carry with it .. what if i was unlucky enough to win.. so i don t buy them any more. jmoslim
i don t think many realize the possible shock to there way of living and understanding, how to live ..if something like that happened.. im not willing to take the chance..you would have lotsa new [friends] after your money.. they would tell you anything you wanted to hear..

At 63 I wouldnt get too excited about what I would BUY or WHERE I would go,   I would ask my BRIDE if she thought I could have a RAISE in my ALLOWENCE, call the children in and have a serious talk with them abt. just how much they thought it would take to make their lives a little easier, until the bride and I no longer were here, then just put the rest where the other money is at.   Jim

This is a true story. My wife sews as a hobby and there was a retired couple that operated a small sewing machine dealership and fabric store out of their home and my wife shopped there a lot. The couple won the Texas lottery in the early '90s and took a lump sum payout of 7 million dollars. They told her they intended to just continue living as they were before their big win. A few months later they told my wife they were selling their home and moving away where no one would know them. They said the constant appeals for money from charities and total strangers was driving them crazy. Within a month they were gone.

I can dream about what we would do and my wife does buy a ticket now and then when the payoff is really big. Set the kids and grandkids up for life and move to a lake. Then I would be real close mouthed with the neighbors and have an unlisted phone number. Think I would have a high fence and a locking gate around the house also.  ;D

Ok I've heard the horror stories before.

Whats to stop a person from getting a lawyer setting up a trust and/or corporation, then have the lawyer claim the pot in the name of the trust or whatever is the best way to go and you remain anonymous. People get the publicity that they want, maybe.

:) Howdy! Someone wrote a book a few years ago about what to do if you won a big lottery. Seems like many of the concerns already brought up were covered.  One thing for sure is that if you won a big lottery, it would change your life and your family's life immensely, for better or worse!  Always, Gene

I'd pay off my debts, then my daughter's, then my brother's.  Then I'd probably move closer to my family.

OLdshooter, thats what a blind trust is. A lawyer sets it up, so that the money goes into an account, and it's kept private. Unless you go and tell everbody about it, only you, the lawyer, and the IRS knows who, what, when and where. gypsyman

Thanks Gypsyman, I probably have been told that before but I did not remember what it was called, and that would be the way to go, unless of course you wanted the publicity.

Not the Lottery, but we had a customer at the pawn shop who won a INSURANCE claim last year, the day he left town to go sign the papers he stoped and told us he would be in to pick up his pawns in a few days, said he was set for life and we were glad for him, well in abt. 3 days he showed up in a brand new truck said he paid cash for it, had on some new clothes and was with a NEW girl, he then picked up all the stuff he had pawned to us, done some jewelry shopping for the new girl, well he went on a spending spree, and called the other day saying that when his taxes comes in he will be picking up the stuff he has pawned to us in abt. 9 mo. now to the tune of +$2800.00 some just cant handle success, and BTW the NEW truck he TOTALED last summer and now is driving one older than the one he had before the insurance settlement.   Jim

The guy you're talking about that was found under the slab was named Abraham Shakesphere. The lawyer that handled all the paperwork for him and all the transactions lives next to me. Before he won he was a helper on a food delivery truck. A guy at our shop said he cold neither read or write. A few weeks after he won he came back to work to get away from all the people trying to beg money off of him. It's a really sad story.

Money won't buy you happiness. Be careful what you wish for, you may just get it. I came into a considerable amount of money and now hide in the woods in a different state. All the money in the world wouldn't bring my Donna back, but in her honor I have spent hundreds of thousands in donations to worthwhile causes. My children and grandchildren are set for life. We all live modest lives. My favorite charity is ST Jude's Childrens Cancer Hospital. I drive a 2005 Silverado and burn wood, have a huge garden and consider my self very fortunate. Best of luck to future winners.
