How to install Iron sights on a 28" fluted barrel?
« on: February 03, 2010, 09:59:28 AM »
I notice that T/C put a flute right down the top of the barrel where the front sight would go.  An engineer should be jimmy-kicked for that.

So how would you install a front sight over the flute?  Fill in the flute at that spot, or file down a flat spot?  Does T/C make a front sight for the fluted barrels?

If you really want iron sights why don't you sell or trade the prohunter barrel and get a 24 inch with the sights?

Good suggestion.  It's a black powder barrel though, and I like the 28" length. I'm going to mount a receiver sight, so the front would have to me monkeyed with anyhow.  Also, every time you trade you lose money.  I also thought the ramrod was upgraded for the Pro Hunter barrel...?

my prohunter .50 cal muzzleloader came with factory fiber optic sights and I thought all of the muzzleloading barrels did

Also the prohunter and the endeavor muzzleloader barrels come with the power rod ram rod.

Hope mine comes with fibre optic sights too, but the sales lady said she thought they don't.  The picture makes me wonder.

I took a picture of the sites on my barrel. I really think they all have sites. I removed the rear sight on mine and I took a picture of the prohunter engraving to show it is a prohunter barrel. click on the link I posted and look at the guns and the barrels they show the sights on them the link was taken from the t/c website. Please post when you get your barrel.

I'll post back when it arrives for sure.  She said Pro Hunter for sure, and 28" stainless fluted for sure, but she thought no irons.  I hope it's at least drilled and tapped for them.  I didn't push hard, as I was getting a good deal by pairing up a ML barrel with a rifle barrel and I'd likely mount peeps on the ML anyhow.

Well, it's here. It not only has iron sights, but only one of the two barrels in the deal is in the shipment.  Phone back to the store (I won't mention its name) indicates only the one part was put on my invoice. On ordering, I even phoned back to confirm the part numbers involved and that both barrels were stainless.  The verbal confirmation I got about it shipping with the 26" stainless steel .223 barrel I asked for seems to have been a complete fabrication, unless someone filling the order deleted the other barrel.

I never would have bought the ML barrel on its own, and only picked it up because they confirmed it was a two-barrel package deal. Stay tuned.

The store admitted they misled me, apologized and took the barrel back, paid for shipping and refunded both.  I asked for a deal on the barrel I got (cost +5% or something reasonable), but that was a no-go.  I'm not satisfied and think they could have done more, but I'm not hugely mad about it either.  In the interim I missed out on a used barrel at a good price.

Just a big waste of time.  Meh.
