What do you all think about a Ballonabwehrkanone that shoots golfballs?
Got any ideas or drawings to make a simple breechloading ballon popper?

For golf balls or steel balls?  Rifled or smoothbore?

I'd be more inclined to make lightweight bronze swivel gun for use on the balloon . To shoot you's guys trying to shoot us guys whilst floating around ........

This would be like a super-serious spud gun.  Has to be a 'replica' of something pre 1898 to be legal.

I think this HAS to be part of the NRV almost annual Shoot this summer !

I would go with something like a Hotchkiss on an appropriate mount.

Would it be cheating to use the golf ball firing attachment on my ar15? I have to muzzle load the golf ball.

No, you can't use the GB launcher on the AR.

It's all black and evil, with that shoulder thing that goes UP!

And mostly 'cause I ain't got a launcher attachment.

(can't screw off the flash hider, it's pinned/welded on 14.5" barrel)

If you read carefully the laws (do so, not to take my non-lawyer advice) you may discover that there is a category wherein it's legal, but if used as a weapon it becomes a DD - hence illegal.  Now to do a pre-1898 AR-15 will take some serious research!   :D

I definitely see a swivel gun vs. baloon competition upcoming!

I've got a Napoleon with 1-7/8 bore that will hold half a dozen at a time - AND provide a good spread too!

I don't think I'd want to shoot off more than 1 at a time. The possibility of something getting stuck seems too great to me. If a couple of balls at the front bind up you'll have a bomb instead of a cannon.   :'(

Multiple full bore projos loaded end-to-end is obviously a BAD idea!

But what about grape or cannister (properly assembled)?

These would seem the first choice for airborne targets.

I'm still waiting for someone to post some close-up pics of the Ballonabwehrkanone, and the ammo it used. ;)

The only pics I found are the one's now posted here, I read there is one of these guns in a German museum somewhere.

Here's another.

I am not sure about the ammo it used but I had a U.S.

balloon buster shell years ago, it used a liqued incendary

on the edge of the base was what looked like a rivet with

a hole in the center it was pluged - on firing a stream of flamable

liqued followed behind crude but effective.

Well we can't use the rules laid down for Ballon-Abwehrkanonen (Bak), antiballon guns, since they were written after 1898.
So, i'm thinking one golfball at a time, to match the 1870 Krupp 3.7cm.

Gary,    That is a most perfect illustration of the primary target of these guns and your use of the word "vauge" proves you have been reading your Beowulf lately or some other OE (old english) epic poem.  Most of us thought, as I first did, that you merely misspelled the word vague.  Ah, but looking at your creative illustration, I believe it just about perfectly illustrates the old english meaning of vauge, that of being an overlayment as in the detailed gas bag encapsulation netting.  High class artwork and very nice wordsmithing too!  Now you understand why we keep you around here.

I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,

Thanks , Gary ,the closest I read to it is 'Eaters of the dead' by Michael Critean(sp) .

Tracy you tend to the single event of a borish individual . 'Overlayment' as expressed in the artwork is not a single layer event .

I tried to capture all encapslutaling indeed Overlaying nature of the dark . Represted desire and a calling to sail above men of ordinary stature .

A dry and musty saluent to the toiled labor of mankind in general terms . Best ,with say a triscut and a nice Sharp Cheddar if not an outright Brie . 8)

I'm still open to interpetation ,but right now yours is the best . :D ....maybe Cave Aged Gurriere , this is all very subjective .....  ;D

OK.  Will have to build several - there's likely to be some competition.
Won't make any promises yet on size - but we can adjust the range.
