The Drought is over
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:02:00 PM »
A couple years ago when we were in the midst of a terrible drought, a preacher friend of mine from Arkansas stopped by.  As he left he asked if there was anything I needed.  I told him to pray for rain.  Today I sent him an urgent email telling him to lay off for a while.  I'm getting webbed feet down my way...... ???

I've never seen anything like it...  :-\  Temp was dropping a degree every 15 minutes when I was driving home.  In the low mid 30's now.  The rain started about 5:30 and 'spose to be very heavy, a real frog strangler, and last into tomorrow.   :(

Oh, and it's just so nice and beautiful in Wisconsin right now. Everything is so crisp, clean, and fresh. No rain in sight for months to come. God, I love it here. ;)

Well, I tell ya there "odiferous one," at least we don't have snow butt deep to a six foot indian!   ;D

I went down to the man cave this evening and tried my hand at makin hot glue bullets.  I'm gettin right upset about not being able to get any range time!   >:(  But I made six, loaded them in the brass Bill sent me and shot one.  worked fine, accuracy is pretty good, real good actually.  'course the primer backed out and promptly locked up the cylinder but what the heck...  ::)  I'll drill out the flash hole and try agan.   ;D

That sounds like it needs its own thread, Richard. Care to elaborate, I'm on pins and needles!

Ya better hunker down Richard. According to the radar the worst of this front is jist about to reach you as I type this. It has already passed over us and boy the wind is a howling out. It rained most of the day yesterday and all night last night and got right serious about it over night.

We were already water logged here and now it's about in full flood mode I expect. It's too dang dark out to see but once daylight arrives I'm thinking the pastures will be flooded and my pond is likely outta banks. Oh well reckon the drought really is over.

It rained all dang day here and mighty hard at times. My pond is totally out of banks and the ditch that runs between it and the highway is now a part of the pond er maybe that's vice versa, anywho it's all water errywhere I look. I think it qualifies as a flood.

We had a dry day today but the rains due back in tonight.  I'm seeing a lot of places flooded I never thought would flood.  Rain won't soak in anymore, grounds saturated.

Wal as a matter uv fact it did sprinkle a bit this week. I don't think we got more than 5" or 6" but since I didn't have the rain gage out I dunno for sure. I do know the pond is outta banks and over flowing like it was a river. I planted a couple of chestnut trees today and the furtherest one from my house had several inches of water standing in the hole I dug. It was like digging in a swamp down there and that's supposed to be high and dry land most of the time. Today it looks kinda like a lake.

It is to be raining again by morning and all thru the day and then a bit more on Sunday but they say that will just be a mist mostly. The next one is to dump another 1" to 2" they say.

Yeah I think the drought might be over.

As a resident of the "plains" of mid Ga., I'd say that the drought is definitely over. This will, hopefully, raise the water table, but it plays hell with my quarter-mile long, dirt driveway. Hunman55

Yup it's been pouring down here all morning long. Right now there is a lull until the next wave hits. I'll try to drop in the current radar image as an add on at the bottom if it's not too big to work.

I'm about midway between Anniston to the south and Gadsden to the north on the weather radar images.

Graybeard,

I made it up through some of your country Friday and Sat.  Had to go over to Corinth, Miss. from LaGrange, Ga. on a repair job.  I noticed a house built on a little island off hyw. 172 and thought it an odd place to put a house, until I realized that the house was not supposed to be on an island.  The driveway disappeared under water just a ways off the road, and the neighboring creek was a backwater........

Beautiful rolling hill country though, I would have liked to have spent a little time there, maybe even go up to Guntersville and fish...maybe next  trip.
