I traded my 700ML for it.  It was the last of my plastic guns and I felt it just didn't fit in with the rest of my collection.  It's just a regular old .50 with a 1-48" twist.  The stock has some pretty curl but you can't really see it.  Notice the "trade knife" my friend gave me.

She's purty, was it a factory or kit?

It's a factory made gun.  The knife is an English Trade Knife by Jeff White.

Yes I don't normally fool with conicals.  I have some that I may try just for fun.

I will be hunting with this one.  After shooting and hunting with flintlocks for over 25 years I decided they just weren't reliable enough for serious hunting.  I love the romance but not the hassel.  The really expensive rifles and fowlers I owned with Chamber's Locks were 99% reliable.  The flintlock T/C Hawken I owned was probably 85-90% reliable.

Nice trade and I hope you will only use the holy black in her.  I have four  Hawkens rifles and love them  all.  My favorite is a .50 cal in 1 in 66" twist carbine and I am going to take her into the woods next season.  This is it:

I also have another one but in .54 cal and shoot sabots.  She has a 1 in 24" twist:

This one has bagged many deer!  I shoot a Barnes Expander sabot with 85 grs of Goex ffg.

Just another voice in the crowd!!!

My .54 above also likes the R.E.A.L conicals.  It gets a little expensive shooting the Barnes sabots after a while.    ;)

The 1 in 24" barrel that shoots conicals nicely was from Cabalas.  It ran me $400.  However, the PRB Hawkens from  InvestArms was from Gunboker and being sold by a dealer from  Florida.  I only paid $180 for it.  Big difference, but both are great guns in finish and accuracy.

Swampman, anytime you trade a cartridge gun for a ML, you did good!  I'm like you regarding the flinters.  I hunted with them for years, killed a lot of deer and squirrels, but as I got older, I began to see I wouldn't lose the romance of muzzleloaders by shooting caplocks.  I had some custom longrifles, flintlocks all, but I haven't looked back.  I think the thing that really pushed me to the other side, was the sights of custom made guns.  The sights of genuine 1700's flintlock longrifles were tiny, tiny things, because the mindset then was that the smaller the sight, the more precice the sight picture.  But the makers today know the folly of that.  Even though the fine guns made today are reminiscent of the old ones, they ain't the same, not at all. Locks, metal, powder and everything else was inferior to what's available to us today. We can look the same, but we can't be the same.
