VAT isn't just from the Manufacturer to the Consumer but every step in between gets hits and of course it depends on what is taxable.

VAT is different than a sales tax. Most Americans think the VAT of 2-10% would be on the end sale not Every step.
Take something simple like a head of lettuce that is $1.00 in the store.
The Grower gets .35 for the head when selling it to the packing house ( I am not including any pickers fees in this as well)
the packing house cleans the lettuce and gets it to the distributor and sells it for .55 a head.
Distributor sells it to grocery store for .75 a head and then on to you for the $1.
If you were to add a 5% VAT to this. the same head of lettuce would be 1.22 a head plus any sales tax.
Now add other factors like all the packaging and multiple componets like a car and you can see how a 20,000 car will quickly Become 30 or 35,000 quickly and it is a good way to kill an economy. Especally one like ours that is already cripled with taxes, regulations, and energy costs.

I believe Glenn is doing the Lord's work. I started listening to him 5 years ago and thought he was a goofball but if you could seperate the wheat from the chaff he had alot of good to say. I believe somewhere along the line he went from being a goofy infotainer to doing the Lord's work. He is on a mission from God and He is using him as he does all of us for His purposes. We can all take from him as he does back up what he says with fact. There is no way out of our mess without alot of pain. No matter whether it be reset or restore. We are going to have to come up with many ideas that maybe very unpopular but will set us on the path where we can sustain our culture and our way of life. I personally prefer everyone pay a flat tax. There is nothing more fair than everyone paying the same percentage. But the kind of tax is really secondary to what is done with the money. If we do not do this then our world will turn to a grey morass we will not come out of. Our freedom will be lost and there will be no getting it back. There are alot of people who believe that we will just end up like a European country or soft tyranny as they say. As we continue down this road I believe we will progress to a marxist state. So I would rather go through hard times free than hard times as a slave to the state. Steve

This may well be true, but you definitely have to separate the "wheat from the chaff" when listening to his shows.

Sometimes then foolishness gets on my nerves and I switch to music, and let the rest of you patriots deal with that.

I don't watch much TV and haven't watched Beck in forever (way too much of a Drama queen for me).
However I caught the news last night cause I was interested in the voting in KY and PA, and apparently
Beck and others were mentioned for pushing the sale of Gold as investments through shady investment
companies.

WhatI think I heard iand someone can elaborate with all the facts (I just caught only a snippet in passing)

The sponsor of Becks show pays him oodles of cash for him to push investing in gold to his conservative
audience and then Beck's show cuts to his sponsors commercial to hock gold at 200% above MKT prices.

The gold companies were quoted as saying their sponsors are bought and paid for to say whatever
they want them too.

Apparently a few of these TV gold companies have caught the eye of the GOVT and investigations
have started.

Beck spent quite a bit of time explaining the basics yesterday. Here is what I took home.

He buys coins from the company he pimps for, claims about 15% of his investments are in gold. He also said most experts recommend 10%, he also said many times,that he doesn't buy expecting a gain but as a hedge against total failure of a corporate investment that would pay you Zero. He also interviewed the guy he pimps for. This guy briefly explained the difference between boulian (sp)and coins. Coins are much more expensive per oz. He said every client signs a contract explaining they sell at a 18% premium and will buy your goldback at a cost to the client of another 18%.

The guy said they advertise with conservative talk radio because it makes them more money to advertise to people who have more money and talk radio has that audience more so than the urban youth rap station.

The jist of the thing was that the MAN is trying to shut Beck / Conservative Talk Radio down and this is the latest angle they are taking. Depending on your point of view, either somebody is making money selling people things they want, or people are selling things to folks through fear mongering that they don't need. Beck further claimed that no one was held at gun point during any transactions, ( probably has no proof though ).

That is what I got out of the show . In all likelyhood I'm wrong on all points, It is what I left with though.

You can buy gold through the stock market with various gold investors or you can actually buy the coins through your local bank. Gold coins sell per oz through the bank a little above the stock market value, at least they did a few years ago. Gold never goes to zero, but actually goes down in value during boom times. Lead, canned goods, dry goods, and paying off all your debt is really the way to go, or buying a small farm about 30-60 miles away from a big city.

I think Glenn Beck is Morman which explains the food and seeds, probably gold also. If we had a total breakdown of society, you will need food for a good while, seeds for growing your own food, and gold as a means of payment for things. Our money can fail, have hyper inflation, or be devalued with a society crash. Gold will always be wanted.

Anyone that doesnt have seeds, food and other staples, wont buy em from glenn beck now. Fish, small game and vegetables will be as good as money and will get you killed as easy as gold will.

I discount what GB says because he sells goods that go along with his rhetoric, not that he is wrong but he stands to profit from the same thing he preaches. It makes me wonder which is his goal, the info or the profit.

It takes money to do the research and get the word out. Since alot of sponsors have already caved to demands from the left, he has to sell what pays the bills or he might as well quit. It's the same with everybody!

FDR was just another progressive socialist, lot's of them back then too, what we are experiencing now is nothing new.
Far as Beck goes...I already said what I thought a lot earlier, to those progressive types no conservative talking person will do, all will be very strange, that's pretty much a no brainer. Our founding fathers would have been way too emotional for anyone to take if they were alive and well now...any comments on that? Yep...can you imgaine John Adams on TV...and what people would say when he got very emotional talking about the same things as say...Beck? Remember how emotional he got when the Congress starting getting weak kneed about fighting for their freedom and wanted to give up? Look that speech up. It was his emotions that brought them around to stick it out after they had been losing lot's of battles. Anyone back then say he was a fake and acting funny? Pobably lots of real smart people with lots of fancy talk finding a million reasons not to go along with those radical emotional people. They were worthless getting us our freedoms and setting things right back then, just like they are today. Not a thing has changed all these years. Imagine that.

Lot's of things to find fault with on anyone who tries to get the U.S. going in the right direction, but the people who always find fault don't have squat to offer either.

If you don't like what Beck does on TV/radio just turn it off...personally I'd like to see him be put in a fancy college as a history prof. and get their heads screwed on straight...but I'll take what I can get from anyone who at least tries to wake people up on what is going on.

Could it be that his sponsors find his show appealing to their customer base? I'm gonna bet that Kitchen Aid isn't doing much advertising to the people of Haiti, I don't recall any vote for Obamma ads during his show either. I'm thinking it's a chicken or egg thing with the advertisers, you decide for yourself which came first. Paul Harvey was doing this sort of promotion since condensed milk was invented, it ain't that unique

I find myself thinking lordy give it break Glen. Third most popular show, must be doing something right. The constant repeating I'm attributing to the fact most people aren't listening to the whole show. I wouldn't be suprised to hear that his audience turns once during the three hours. I try to remember that it is supposed to be entertaining as well as informative.

Those that bash Beck, Hannity, Savage, and Coulter, and there has been many that criticized them. I wonder who they listen to, if The conservative talk show hosts are no good.

I have no problem with Beck or anyone else making a profit, more power to them. I wish I was able to pull it off like he does. What I am saying is that Beck and Rush, etc, are nothing more than entertainers making a living. If they thought they could attract a larger audience preaching liberal left wing politics they would.

Sorry Guzzijohn, I don't buy that. I think the conservative talk show hosts are true to heart conservatives, and I could never see them preaching socialism. It comes down to what is right and what is wrong. There is a reason liberal talk radio, or tv can not turn profits.

Also, I don't lump the conservative talk show hosts with entertainers. Like singers, actors, and sports players. I listen to Beck Rush, Hannity, Savage, Coulter, etc.. to get information that you would never hear anywhere else. Especially from sources like Cnn, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBS etc.. Just because they are on TV, and get paid, does not make them entertainers. Do you listen to the news to be entertained, or do you tune in to get information?

Actually the more Beck gets paid the better off people are, since he actually does give much more of his money to very worthy causes, as opposed to say, our president and staff. Good hearted conservative people practice a good bit of spreading the wealth on their own without government confiscating it and then lying about where the money really went. Limbaugh is another example of giving much more than the average wealthy secular progressive socialist.

How ironic that it's the conservatives who usually spread the wealth on their own, campared to the ones who took over our government to spread the wealth through legislation that only bloats government and makes people poorer.

Jimster, how true that is. Not to get off the subject, but Remember the giving thing 20/20 did a while ago? They had the Salvage Army set up buckets at different cities. Two that were talked about most were Sioux Falls S.D. and San Francisco. San Fran being a big city full of socialist liberals and Sioux Falls being small and rural, where half the people go to church every Sunday. The people in Sioux Falls make on average half as much as people in San Fran, and the San Fran location of the bucket had three times as many people within reach of it as the one in Sioux Falls. At the end of the second day the Sioux Falls bucket had twice as much money in it than did the one in San Fran.
Also out of the top twenty five states for giving only one was a blue state (Maryland) the rest were red states.

Are not liberals always railing about how they care about the poor more than conservatives? So much for that myth. Liberals are only good at giving other peoples money away, but when it comes to their own forget it. The little test sure put a bright light on their hypocrisy.

I have seen some here spew venom at just the mention of Beck, Hannity, Rush etc.. I figure their favorites are on some of the communist news networks, but they will never tell.
