The GUN DIGEST recently had a series in the gunsmithing section on building a 1911.  In the first part, I believe, it referenced BOOKS available to help one through the process.

Problem is, I didn't save the edition with the first part and the books referenced therein.

Would anyone know of any such resource materials to build one?  I think it would be a very rewarding experience as Gary says.

The two best books on the market are, "The Colt .45 Automatic, A shop manual" Volume 1. & "The U.S. M1911/M1911A1 Pistols & Commercial M1911 type Pistols, A shop manual" Volume 2. Both by Jerry Kuhnhausen. They are also probably the ones that Gun Digest suggested. They are full of everything you need to know. Good luck to anyone who gives it a try. Mine is probably my favorite just because I built it myself and worked all the bugs out myself. Pride in completion I guess.
By the way, did I mention it shoots oh sweeeet!!!!
If you want it destroyed right, call in a B-52
