WGRS peep sight
« on: February 05, 2010, 05:32:14 AM »
I looked through the FAQs and Stickeys. I didnt see a specific answer so I'll ask here to double check.  If I missed it , I apologize. To swap out my rear dovetail and add this peepsite, is it the WGRS  H&R  # 17778 on the Williams website, correct?
If so, FAQ mentioned to remove one of adjustment screws, watch out for the spring and then there is a pin to drive out before removing the old original sight. Anyone confirm this?  Can I do this or should I take it to a gunsmith?  This is an accessory .50 barrel I bought from NEF fall 2008 for my .223.  Thanks.

jmv,

Yes, the WGRS H&R will fit in the back two screw holes of any factory drilled and tapped H&R/NEF. Call H&R/NEF/Remington Customer Service. IIRC, my WGRS peep only cost $18 from them (the old H&R/NEF) back in 2005. I don't know what they are now, but back then they were only half the price ($36) they were at other places.

Your original Williams Fire-Sight rear site has two screws holding it in place. At least one of the screws will be visable, the other is probably right under the slide. The sight you are talking about with the spring and pin is another sight that H&R/NEF installed on the other barrels. All you will need to do is loosen the slide screw so you can move it and remove the two screws that hold the ramp to the barrel.

If your rifle has been sighted in with the standard rear sight, DO NOT REMOVE IT UNTIL YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE PEEP SIGHT. This will serve many purposes. First, it will allow you to mount the peep and adjust it in line with the other sights that are already sighted in. Second, it will show you if your current front sight is of the right height. If the peep lines up with the standard front and rear, lock it in that position. Third, it will save you a boatload of powder/bullets/primers/time, because you will already be very close to your original sight in.

You don't need a gunsmith. It is so easy, even a cave man can do it.

Hope that helps?
