here in the republik of California...CCW's are a rare occurrence...now we have the firearm ID marking law in place (any semi-automatic handgun must have the ability to engrave the brass with the serial no. of the firearm) and the new ammo law coming in in 2011, it may become very difficult to get anything...if Jerry brown gets (re)elected governor...firearms will have a VERY difficult time surviving here.

the stranglehold the Dem controlled legislature has on this state is very unsettling. they recently increased our auto registration fees by 25% and passed a "NO FREE PARKING" law for shopping centers. they're going to try to force shopping centers to charge for parking to discourage people from driving cars into shop in. i don't know if it will be fought or not, but we'll see if it will stand.

don't squat while wearing your spurs...will rogers

used to in  florida  CCW= no background check

then  they changed  it
the  ONLY  citation  i ever  got  from the ATF  in  26 years

for  failing to do a background check  on a regular customer
after  he ''renewd''  his  CCW
previous sales to  him  were  ok
just not  my last  sale to him

i recently had a customer  had to wait  3 weeks
no explanation
Did the rules change. Thought a "delayed" was for 3 days. If it did not turn into a "denied" in those 3 days, it automatically became "approved".

you  are  correct
i  just don't let  the gun  go with out an APPROVAL

Hell, I purchased a NEF shotgun from walmart because they were 20.00 dollars cheaper than what I could order them for. I was "delayed" on my NCIS check and I have FFL!!!! figure that one out!!!!

funny when it works out  that  way
makes you want to send that  ffl  in  and  not have the hassle
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs

brian, try illinois. unless they changed it, you can buy here as if in mo. few years ago, was in a shop with brother that lived in mo. we're in illinois shop. dealer would have to see my foid card and wait 24hrs to pickup long gun. but to my brother-mo resident- just show his drivers' license for proof of residency, lay down the money and walk out with long gun NOW!! what a rip... jather...
I had a similar situation, I live in Illinois, my son is active duty army stationed in Missouri, but an Illinois resident.  I went to visit him last year and while at a gun shop in Missouri I spotted a Handi that I liked.  I would have had to show my Firearm Owner ID card and wait the Illinois 24hr wait.  My son said he'd buy it.  The owner asked my son if he was going to use his military ID or driver's license (Illinois), he went with military ID and he walked out the door with the gun.

Actually the gun is his.  I have it in my gun safe for him, but it hasn't been out of the box since then.  Each of my children that are residents of Illinois have a FOID card and each transfer between me and any of them has been recorded.  That is one thing that we have been very deligent in keeping recorded.

They all know that for Christmas 2010 they will be getting a Handi and they choose what they want.  Most will come from what I already have, but if more than one wants what I have, I may have some things to trade for what they want.  It happened that we found what my son was looking for, although he is still undecided on what stock set he wants.  Nothing like passing the Handiholic genes to a new generation  ;D

yes  that  straw purchase  law
and  its  ok to buy a gun and give it as a gift  is  confusing

i  think that is the  sole purpose of the law
is just to make it  more confusing  than most folks want to deal with

It is the incrmental ism of the anti gun dolts.
They write laws that really do not make sense and then do not enforce them, if they did Sara Brady should be doing 10 years for a straw across the state purchase she made for son, step son, or nephew.  But like most liberals she was given a pass as it is not what she does but what she wants to do.  and as a celeberty for the handgun cause...
Also most states have family tree gift laws.  But if you give or sell it to anyone else you are supose to do paper work.  You can go up and down a family branch father, mother grandfather, son grandson but not uncle or cousin.  Something we worked out when I got a shotgun for my cousin.  Long drawn out but here is how we did it.
I gave gun to my father (legal) he gave gun to his wife (legal) wife gave gun to her mother (legal) she gave gun to my uncle (legal) he gave gun to my cousin (legal) if I handed it to my uncle to give to my cousin that would have been illegal.
There goal is to continue to write laws that fail to finally say we need to collect all as no new law is working and to conficsate all firearms.
